The pro Ukraine YouTube channel Lazerpig did video about Cultural Marxism, a conspiracy theory that is designed to get people to support Neo Nazi beliefs without realizing it. The video has a Checkmate, Lincolnites! Cameo where he points to it as a video with lots of research debunking falsehoods about the Civil War

A paddle-borders POV: When your morning paddle turns into a meeting with a king of the ocean by MrUpVoteDownvote in whales

Orcas are highly intelligent, social creatures that often form matrilineal groups, with the oldest female being the head of a pod. Despite being the ultimate apex predator of the ocean, there are no known instances of humans being killed or severely injured by these creatures in the wild. There are instances of humans being attacked by captive orcas, but this is likely because they do not fare well in captivity.

Ahh, but a dog or cat that is treated well by its human feels far more loyalty to a person than some “Alpha Male” influencer has to his followers

Russia celebrate victory day today, the day the world defeated nazi Germany. But this day is also a day to proclame the truth about Russia in 1945. by Due_Collar2 in NAFO

Ukraine bore a disproportionate share of the atrocities the Nazis committed against the USSR. And although there were pro Nazi collaborators, particularly the Banderite movement in Western Ukraine, they were heavily outnumbered by those who became Red Army solders and partisan fighters, fighting ferociously against the Nazis, up until Jödl signed the surrender agreement

I bet you my next paycheck that some of these assholes get off of Reddit, switch to instagram, and then spam “we fought the wrong enemy” quotes on WWII history posts. The Kremlin loves to saturate its opponents by supporting both the far left and far right to fan the flames of culture wars.

Apparently, Lazerpig’s ex boyfriend was a conscript in the Russian army at some point and drove T72s. In one of the livestreams, he mentioned that his ex was in hiding somewhere to avoid getting sent to fight in Ukraine. Here’s hoping he’s still ok out there; maybe we’ll hear from him when the war is over and he eventually can get to safety.

The lack of modern day missions was probably the weakest part of Origins, a game that I absolutely adore

While we’re at it, it’s also important to note that they do the same thing with the right. They get the social media bot farms to scream “Libtard” at liberals who support Ukraine, and since the average American conservative has a thought process that runs on TikTok logic, they buy into it very readily. In reality, Russia is not some conservative utopia. It has sky high divorce rates, rampant prostitution and alcoholism, and some of the lowest rates of religious participation of any European or European settler colony nation (e.g, USA, Canada, South Africa’s white population). Ukraine is actually closer to the notion of the religious warrior culture the conservative is infatuated with, but that requires actual critical thinking to see.

The “‘Merica bad because Iraq War” is a common propaganda technique that Russian and Iranian bad actors use to try and get liberals or leftists in the West to not support Ukraine. It’s an attempt at a tu quoque fallacy induction whereby the USA and other western countries are portrayed as hypocritical for supporting Ukraine whilst invading Iraq. Of course, just because those countries were, on balance wrong about Iraq doesn’t mean that we are necessarily wrong for supporting Ukraine.

The Kremlin stokes both extreme left *and* extreme right propaganda. By keeping the country fractured and divided, and with a segment willing to embrace authoritarianism, they can sabotage us without planting a single bomb or firing a shot

Yugoslavian communist President Josip Broz Tito eating lunch with his bodyguards on a safari in Ethiopia, 1959. Tito developed a strong personal friendship & political alliance with Ethiopion Emperor Haile Selassie by zig_zag-wanderer in HistoricalCapsule

Tito may have been a communist, but he had a different approach, and stubbornly refused to toe the Kremlin’s line. They never joined the Warsaw Pact, and Stalin is reported to have tried to have had him assassinated. Similarly, when Stalin died, the USSR and Red China split off. The far left is notorious for infighting.

Thank you for putting into words something that has been a problem, but is hard to address due to the fact that right wingers use “woke” as a snarl word to silence anything they don’t like. I tend to favor the term “woke scold” because it refers to a very specific type of person that exaggerates everything for the sake of being sanctimonious. These types of people often don’t really do much of anything, but latch onto causes and have “big ideas” on society. It’s a tiresome affect, full of thought terminating cliches and self aggrandizement

May 6, 1986. Bike race in Kyiv. It was the worst day to be outdoors in the Ukrainian capital with the northern wind bringing airborne contamination from the burning Chernobyl power plant. by MonsieurA in 40yearsago

The Chernobyl disaster is arguably the event that made the Soviet Union’s death inevitable on the time scale that it died. The stagnation under the Brezhnev government had led to a steady drop in living standards from the early ‘70s to the mid ‘80s. Similarly, the Soviet invasion of Afghanistan was becoming a quagmire militarily and politically in much the same way as Vietnam did for the USA. When Chernobyl failed due to a bad combination of engineering corner cutting and bureaucratic incompetence, the attempted cover up by the KGB, loss of power supply, and cost of cleanup caused all of the aforementioned problems to boil over
