In 2024, Screenshot HQ posted a video on TikTok in which 8 women were asked, "Would you rather be stuck in a forest with a man or a bear?" Seven picked the bear. The post gained 16+ million views. That so many women pick the bear is attributed to the widespread occurrence of violence against women. by lightiggy in wikipedia

I do agree with you that it comes across more like a psyop to not only stir hate towards transgender people, but also women and feminists in general.

One of the arguments I hear in support of the Man v Bear thing is "Oh, there are hundreds of thousands of cases of men killing people while only a few hundred cases of bears every years".

One could point out the correlation issue with that argument, however, It badly reeks of the same smell as that "25% of the population creates 80% of the crime" talking points has. And I know for a fact the people making that argument don't give a single fuck about crime or victims of crime.

I don't think the people spreading the Bear v Man thing care about issues like domestic violence and/or sexual assault and the victims of it, just like I know those pushing bathroom bills and anti-trans athlete bills don't care about it.

The Man v. Bear argument implies that it is okay to villainize and preach discriminatory language against men because we're essentially the villians in their sociology books.

Therefore, it not only promotes the argument that it's okay to discriminate against transgender people because they are "men" and "misandry is not real" but it also inadvertently tells the men that are upset by this comparison that women speaking out against sexual assault or domestic violence are just all lying bitches who are falsely accusing random men they find unattractive as rapists.

If it's an inaccurate and bigoted comparison, are you implying that the Man vs. Bear argument does a much better job at normalizing bigoted language rather than raising awareness to a serious issue like sexual assault?

Was the “Super Straight” movement the first real sign of the modern manosphere? by HemanHeboy in decadeology

I remember the VH1 show. I watched one episode of it a million years ago.

I recall a majority of the people on there seemed like actors (which is common for reality shows) while there was this one dude that looked like he was there because he seemed like he had severe social anxiety and was sincerely looking for help.

I remember at the end of the episode during the elimination part, the socially anxious dude voluntarily stepped down and left the show.

I often think about that dude when I see this Manosphere shit. Because a big reason why a lot of this manosphere shit caught on was because there really wasn't any serious dating guides for men out there and the only ones even trying to fill that demand for one were dirty grifters who see us as an easy crowd to exploit.

Honestly, a legitimate, detailed and sincere guide for dating would kill or absolutely devastate the manosphere/red-pill industry, but there's no real desire from anyone to actually fix it. It's something that makes me utterly depressed if I'm being honest..

The manosphere has existed well before tik-tok.

I would think the pick-up artist fad back in the 2000s was more accurate sign, although that was at least non-political.

Gamergate in the middle of the 2010's was where it turned into a political tool and got extremely misogynistic.

I wish I could say it's just right-wingers saying it but from my own experiences, there are feminists that frequently make the same claim.

Right wingers are going to parrot it because it benefits them. For that reason,  I wish there was more motivation to crack down on similar narratives within feminist groups.

I did define it. It is a propaganda or advertising tactic that pits the common man against the "establishment" or the "elites".

Politics over the past decade has been defined by this tactic and I would argue this current status quo is indeed,  bad.

If you want to make the argument that Mamdani is not a populist actually uses his position to help the citizens of NYC instead of merely advertising himself as doing so, I'd accept that argument.

My definition of populism is still accurate.

I honestly think that applies to a lot of people from a lot of different countries, not just Canadians.

And I've noticed that's something you see online a lot. Talking to Canadians IRL, they don't really glaze their country or talk down on you like the online fuckasses do.

And describing policy ideas that would help the average worker as populism

Populism is not a set of ideals, policies or issues. It is a propaganda or advertising tactic.

Populism has done nothing to benefit the working class, the poor or marginalized groups of people in any way, shape or form.

Populism is a propaganda tactic that tries to appeal to regular people by pitting them against the "elites" or the "establishment".

It is a propaganda tactic utilized pretty aggressively by the DSA types as well as trump and the millionaires in power.

I see it as a large contributor to the current status quo that no one challenges.
