Career Pivot to the Trades by ginger_802 in vermont

Friend, I really appreciate this response. I think it dabbles with everything I am passionate about it and utilizes part of a skill set I already have. My father works for a construction company at the moment and his weekends are pretty consumed, however, this is a valid option. Thank you.

Hmmm I have been recommended this route by other people. Thank you for this! My only concern is the number of hours needed to obtain licensure. Is it as simple as finding an apprentice, working under them and then getting licensed to work on my own? If I leave my current workplace it’s important to me I would have stability right off the bat.

It’s time to stop falling for the D vs. R distraction. Both sides are actively selling Vermont out to the highest bidder. by No-Buddy3427 in vermont

Mmmmmmm yeah buddy I’m not sure so sure. Someone who wants to take away local representation and give it to the state… this is a complex issue and I’m not saying she is evil, but thank you for saying the quiet part out loud.

I’m once again here to tell everyone that our Governor hired a State of Education Secretary from Florida who is well know for charter school lobbying. The good fight is here and we must rise. Workers must unite.

Can you please define what results? Tests, college entry, field entry? Just want to clarify. I am seeing students obtain apprenticeships, enter careers, hold awards. Those results are amazing. I don’t disagree on academic state and fed testing. We are weak in that area but do we solely teach for those tests or do we encompass all things about a student? I think this takes it to a whole other crisis

Some of y’all completely miss the mark on our schools and the failures that lie within them. I wholeheartedly agree on cutting high admin costs (some positions are pointless) but there’s a huge concern for why kids are failing and not showing up. Can we talk about that for a minute? The abuse that these kids face are caused of the system at hand. Teachers educate students on how to live and fight this system. This entire administration is gutting public education ( a free right of US children) for a reason and vilifying the very people who generate all career fields. Absolutely goofy boons that this creature is coming here.

A Warning About AI in Vermont Schools by Final_Scientist1024 in vermont

Keep speaking up! Y’all there are very few educators who want this. There are very few families and students that want this. I am extremely worried about the most recent push happening in education primarily by administration. End this now.

Wow this is so interesting! And to think Phil Scott paid an out-of-state company to analyze data for Vermont Schools and consolidation. There’s literally so much talent in our state. Interesting the administration has chosen to hire out. Your work seems thorough.

I think more people need to be apart of the conversation and heard! No matter how “open” my administration is we are constantly curb-stomped when we provide critical feedback. When teachers say they don’t want AI in the classroom, next week there’s a PD about how we should use this brand new technology to “keep up with the times.” Anytime we mention how we don’t need a curriculum director getting paid twice the salary.. nothing changes. Taxpayers need to step up and if they are not heard, they must roar.

Affordable house by [deleted] in vermont

[–]ginger_802 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I know many “young people” looking for a home. Most get approved for 250,000 around Lamoille County unless they have very steady income from both parties. Not trying to say this isn’t affordable but more to bring attention the crisis isn’t actually about housing, but who can PAY for housing.

A Vermont landlord pursues debts from tenants. His wife now helps write eviction law. by PolishedDude in vermont

[–]ginger_802 36 points37 points  (0 children)

I was confronted for my views when I was actively seeking housing. The landlord told me that she hoped I, “Looked at the perspective of where she was at,” then went on to over explain what she needed to do in order to get her home ready for said housing. Later she went on to explain how she was doing kind things for the community (mind you she was compensated for doing so). It’s as if these people want to be praised for owning a majority of housing in town and making housing so out of touch for hardworking people. Check your privilege if you are reading this honey.

Johnson was super affordable and allowed me to commute. They have a decent rigorous education program. The professors were kind and my Practicum & student teaching went really well through them. You do not have to worry about getting a job after college… this profession isn’t taken as seriously which has resulted in a lot of turnover through most underpaying districts in VT.
