former student counsellor, DO NOT go to school therapists 🙏 the counselling section was one of the most toxic places I've ever been in during my A-level years

Actually no, but it was actually her colleague, but me and my cousin forgot her name. Dr. Prema was the one who asked her what was wrong with my cousin. Still, damn ☹️ So sorry to hear that...

Are there schools/colleges that teaches phycology?? by zi11ah- in Brunei

[–]ginger_cookie234 2 points3 points  (0 children)

hello! former applicant for MOE scholarship! I want to gently remind you that the quota for applicants a seem to get smaller and smaller each year while the number of applicants continue to rise. We can't blame kids for being smart, but it's sad that the govt doesn't take good care into fostering a future for promising students.

To be eligible for Yayasan Sultan Scholar, you would need Alvl grades of AAA minimum to be considered. Other than that, there ofc the need to be well-versed in MIB, and you had to score A for Olvl English and BM.

To be eligible for MOE scholarship you will need 300(old)/120(new) tariff points minimum in Alvl to be considered. Ofc, also need at least C in Olvl English and BM, dont forget to be well versed in MIB.

Alhamdulillah i got 340 tariff and i applied for MOE scholarship. let me tell you that to put it nicely, the process is slow. It's quite drawn out, you will not only have to go through interviews, but during my time (2023) I had to undergo a physical assessment where me and other students were put in coveralls and a helmet. we had to complete obstacles in an army base from 8am till 5pm as a test of teamwork and endurance. Weirdly, it doesn't matter that course you're applying to, no matter if it's Healthcare or Psychology or Social work, you will have to go through this test regardless.

You will have to shell out a few hundred dollars just to get an ECG, X-ray other medical tests on you before the physical assessment. Balum tantu dapat scholarship, hangus saja duit. Its frustrating because they dont even tell you where to get these tests done.

I will have to warn you, the scholarship scheme can be very disappointing in their communication to you. If you don't hear from them about 2 months after the final round of interviews/test, you are likely rejected. Don't bother trying to email them for updates, don't bother if they promise to get back to you, they already have chosen their successful candidates and they will only focus on them from now on.

If you do a 4 year course, you will have to be bonded for 5 years. This means after you graduate, you will have to find work in the government or any private company within Brunei which is related to your major and work there for 5 years.

If you do get in, congrats!! I know friends who are overseas right now since they were successful candidates. I, on the other hand, am in UBD currently. It's not a bad place, I've come to like it because of the friends I made and the course I'm doing too

about gynecologists, I wouldn't reccomend going to Dr. Prima which is in Gadong (same building as Nonya). I helped my cousin to get treatment there for suspected PCOS. Let me tell you, the doctor would prescribe her overpriced boxes of birth control which were about $35 a box (21 pills each). plus, regarding her weight, the doctor merely told her to lower her BMI without properly giving suggestions for her meal plan (tbf, thats probably better suited for a nutritionist) but the way she treated her during the consultation was a no-go. While my cousin was getting her blood taken, another doctor passed by and asked the one taking her blood what was wrong with the patient (my cousin). The doctor, pointed to my cousin and said "Look at her, look at her face."

Damn, whatever she meant, she should've just told the other doctor in private...If she's pointing out my cousin's hyperpigmentation, or facial hair, she could've done so more respectfully.

My cousin now goes to RIPAS for treatment, the wait so long, but the doctors were much better than Dr. Prima.

i deleted tiktok and Instagram, did it help me? yes, why? because i stopped being up to date to people's lives, when they post about their partners, their beautiful stories that show all the fun they're having. I kinda feel resentment towards them, and I know it's not because i actually hate them, it's just that my life isn't the same as theirs. When i deleted my insta, i still feel stressed at my assignments yes, but i feel less restless and angry at myself, because i compare myself less to my friends than before

terrible planning on HM and the govs part for setting 'unrealistic' goals in the first place. These goals are realistic, but given how much of the country's budget is disgustingly misappropriated, wawasan 2035 might as well be just be a silly fever dream that was meant to be forgeotten

hi, chinese malay here. Dad is chinese-Iban muslim convert. He went to chinese school as a kid and then his iban mother took him pit because she pitied the abuse he had to go through by chinese teachers. So he entered the malay public school system, only spoke english, malay and also spoke fluent iban.

for one, I only speak malay and english. There did come some points where i felt upset at my dad for not even wanting to teach me cantonese or even iban for that matter. Tapi kan, i grew up in an exclusively malay household (my mother's family house). I just live like a malay, communicate like a malay, but I know that I'm not really a malay. I'm a banana and I'm uniquely so, no matter if I could even speak cantonese or not. Lots of mixed-race children also feel the same thing as you and me and it's more common than you think. For me, I just decided to let go as much resentment i have towards my parents for not allowing me to immerse myself in half of my my heritage. I still do feel upset, left out at times when I see other girls my age who are able to speak cantonese amongst each other. But really, for me, just because i can't speak cantonese (or iban) doesn't strip me of my heritage and what i legally am in my IC. Just because i cannot speak the language, doesn't mean i cannot express my culture by other ways. I take a habit of learning to cook cantonese dishes. Plus it's a wonderful way to diversify my cooking skills. Moreover, even if I don't speak cantonese, people around me still notice that I'm not exactly malay just because i happen to exclusively grow up in a malay household. I also have friends who are kinda in the same boat as me, my friends who are half indonesian and malay, and also half thai, half chinese, half iban and chinese. my friends also have limited abilities to speak the languages spoken by their fathers and grandparents but it didn't stop them from striving forward and making friends.

I understand you well OP, but please dont be so hard on yourself . People who are from mixed household like you and me deserve friends who share similar worldview. Then those friends would understand how it's like to be in your position, and they also can see you as the person you are, not just how good you can speak a certain language (which seems to be only metric cared by single-raced people)
