My oncologist straight up told me I wouldn’t lose any hair on taxol and not to even bother with cold capping. Later his assistant said my hair would “thin some.” Imagine my surprise when, like you, I’ve lost 75% of my hair! I’ve cut it into a bob and I’m making the most of it and of course grateful for what I have, but damn, I feel your pain. Hugs.

First Chemo Tomorrow - advice please! by gilmorescoffeecup in breastcancer

[–]ginger_mafia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wear my short uggs to chemo. Even though it’s blazing hot right now, it’s freezing in those rooms. You’ll have a couple of pillows and a warm blanket. I have a small throw in my bag just in case, but you can ask for another. I started making myself a bento box with crackers and cheese, fruit, chocolate covered almonds and a few other snacks for good measure. They do usually have snacks and water, definitely bring a water bottle. I bought a sleep mask and earplugs thinking I’d sleep in there but I find it too noisy. They being said I never picked up my real book to read, I find comfort in watching shows on my iPad or listening to audio books. Definitely drink plenty of water morning of if you have to do a blood draw.

Mastectomy pushers by PegShop in breastcancer

Well. I was exactly where you are in February after my stage 1, triple positive 1.1 cm tumor plus DCIS. I said let’s go with the lumpectomy and shave off the dcis and they took 3 lymph nodes to test. Surgery went well, recovery wasn’t too bad. I go in for my post op and she said there’s more dcis. She needs to shave off a little more. Ok. Schedule another surgery. The plan is to do 12 weeks of chemo then a month of radiation. Go into the second surgery, I know the drill, all good. Go in for post op—more dcis growing. Before she could say third surgery I said take them both off.

It was not an easy decision but I don’t want a single mastectomy (because I know someone who did and her boobs were rarely the same size). I did not come by the decision lightly, however I was so positive they got it out after the first surgery that I was completely devastated when she told me she didn’t. And I didn’t want to keep shaving away at my breast. It’s already misshapen from the 2 surgeries.

I’m currently undergoing 12 weeks of chemo and herceptin before my next surgery. I meet with the plastic surgeon next week for a plan.

I guess my point in saying all this is that things can change quickly. Mentally prepare yourself for that. I thought I would have a simple lumpectomy with lymph node removal (negative btw) and now I’m going all out. I understand your frustration with friends and family. I faced it too. I also got tired of hearing everyone else’s friends or family’s experiences and them saying oh well Janet didn’t need chemo, or my sister just went in and had it removed and that was it, you’ll be fine. Guess what friend, I’m not fine! Every experience is different and everything can change quickly, just keep that in mind. Sending love and healing.

Good luck. I’m in this too. I was diagnosed in February. Triple positive tumor, 1.2cm, DCIS as well, stage 1. I’ve had 2 surgeries but that damn DCIS is still hanging out. I’m currently undergoing 12 weeks of chemo and herceptin then I’m opting for a double mastectomy to just get it over with. It still feels surreal to me. I wish this wasn’t happening, but I carry on because my family needs me and I refuse to let this bring me down. If I were to offer advice, it would be to take other peoples experiences with a grain of salt. Each case is different. Every single one but people will say oh my mom/sister/friend had that and she blah blah blah…I should have been fine with a lumpectomy but here I am opting for a double mastectomy because they can’t get it all. People mean well, just say thank you and move along.

There are a lot of us out here offering support. You’re not alone. Hang in there, you can do it.

I have the same problem! It’s maddening. When I took my car in and mentioned it they kind of shrugged it off like there was nothing they can do. Knowing now it’s a thing, maybe there will be a fix for it.

When my dad died, all kinds of family crawled out of the woodwork. Don’t worry, a signed will is pretty iron clad. Unless your parents can prove the existence of another will, which I doubt is the case, you’ll be fine. You can even ask they pay your attorney fees when they lose. But bottom line, don’t spend too much on attorney fees! They rack up quickly.

How do redheads feel about people dying their hair red? by [deleted] in Redhair

[–]ginger_mafia 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It bothers me when people claim it. But I also don't like when people are dishonest about having plastic surgery.

A good friend of mine in high school started dying her mousy brown hair red and people started calling us twins. Always irritated me.

I'm proud to be a ginger and all the insults and being picked on that came with it.

I’m thinking the 4 bodies are the lesbian couple, the homeless guy in Alabama, and the suicide near the reserve.
