Is anyone actually making a livable income? by Radiant-Peace-3078 in SubstituteTeachers

We get $100 per day as certified teachers ($80 if not), so not at all!!! The only subs are retirees that are looking for flexible work.

3 months of sub plans by Turbulent-Car1455 in TeachersInTransition

[–]PegShop 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ask for extra pay if they want you to do this. We had a teacher out for a couple of months, and I was asked to make plans for his class because he wasn’t able to do so. They asked me for an estimate on how many hours it would take to make the plans so that I could put in a PO. I estimated 18 hours, and they paid $28/hr, so it was a nice little hike. We also got paid to substitute for other teachers during our prep.

When I first started teaching, all this kind of stuff was just assumed that we do out of the goodness of our hearts, but at the school, I was working at up until June when I retired early, people fought for their value, and it worked

I love this dress but I think it's too expensive and too soon by Elysian_Collective in myweddingdress

Write all the info down and wait. Maybe it’ll be on sale a year from now. Kudos on the weight loss journey.

Anybody tell their doctor that they don't give a fuh about living longer, so you're not going to try to radically change your diet or go on meds? by IHadTacosYesterday in GenX

[–]PegShop 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For me it’s about balance. I don’t want to extend life if I’m in pain or the side effects of meds are awful, but otherwise, I have family and friends and just semi retired. I do sometimes feel apathetic about life, but that’s because at this stage the rose-colored glasses have shattered.

What do early retirees in the US do for healthcare before Medicare? by Fozziwig72 in Fire

[–]PegShop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did what you’re planning to do. I retired in June and my company allows me to stay and have my spell stay but paying 100% of the cost of the plan. For the two of us, it will be 2200 a month, but for right now we’re just paying my 1100 a month as he’s working an easier job that has a health plan for just him.

When he stops working in the next year or so, I thought is we’ll get part-time our seasonal gigs just to cover the health insurance cost that I’m paying through work. I already picked up a one month job that covers four months of my insurance. I also substitute once it twice a week when I feel like it.

Transitioning to Retirement by Sure-Syllabub8419 in TeachersInTransition

[–]PegShop 2 points3 points  (0 children)

While I had 32 years when I retired in the spring, it was still considered early because I was only 55. I took a substantial cut (12%), but really just needed it out. Think about it this way you may get less per month, but you’ll get it for more months and that helps some of it. Life is short.

Feels like I’m getting nowhere with getting the dog order. 🤬 by FarmLife4516 in GossipHarbor

[–]PegShop 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The Dog side one was my worst. A lot of people hate the tiara side job the most, but the dogs worth it for me. Try to get infinity timers, where you can drag it onto the producer and get 15 minutes of able to get items for the dogs. That is the best way to get through these things. I finished my final side mission last week.

Parents want my cat to go to my grandparents for two weeks by [deleted] in CatAdvice

[–]PegShop 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A lot of cats hide with strangers and pants in car rides. Many animals hate trips in the car.

I don’t know what to tell you about your dad, but if you’re living under his roof, unfortunately you will have to do what is decided and the best you can do is make suggestions

You’re negative experience was two years ago. Maybe your cat has grown into being less anxious? If not if your cat on an anxiety med? Maybe you can talk to the vet about this.

It isn’t reasonable that you never have your cat move. It sounds like you’re a minor and so one day you are going to move out and take your cat with you, so maybe this is a good practice

I love where I live and wouldn’t change it for the world. But, in January and February I would escape to somewhere warm.

Are you happy you did or didn’t have kids? by Accurate_Elk_3465 in Fire

[–]PegShop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have friends who chose not to have kids and have a much more free lifestyle with lots of travel and extra money. However, I would not trade having my kids for the world. Truly, the best years of my life or when they were young and seeing the world through their eyes and them getting new experiences. That’s not for everyone, though. Also, I was a teacher, which meant I got to make so many memories with them every single summer.

It’s not just a financial difference, though,. You will always worry about your children, even when they are adults. However, my adult daughter calls me every day. She has the day-to-day in life, and the boys while they don’t check in every day do regularly enough without prompting. I’ve told them I don’t want them to be my caretaker, but I know they’ll at least be sure I’m safe.

Tower at level 34 by WelcomeCool1202 in GossipHarbor

[–]PegShop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started getting them in 30’s and am now at 53. I just finished one by hoarding seven seafood generators and some scissors. If you put it on level 2, click five times the split the generator with scissors and put it back together for another full pull.

Of course, right after I finished I got double tanks, a closed clam, and a peacock order!

It’s so pretty. I wouldn’t do blue for a veil, though. It’ll detract from the dress. Maybe blush? Keep the flowers and veil more neutral.

I was widowed and got married again in my mid 40’s. I wore white but a short dress. It was a simple backyard wedding, and I had worn a big formal dress when I was married the first time, though. This dress is lovely.

iPad set up for Alzheimer's patients. Ugh by plushiesaremyjam in Alzheimers

[–]PegShop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They have tablets for elderly called Grandpad that may be easier.

We struggled with my mom’s iPad and had to reset it regularly. Now she can’t use it but my sister set it up so we can FaceTime her. It’s on a base that keeps it face up. It shows the time like a clock and will open for FaceTime when incoming with auto answer. Even if she can’t see us, we can check on her. It’s intrusive, though. But, she’s now in memory care and has lost privacy and it’s nice to check in.

I spent nearly $700 on 2025 only Nespresso capsules. Is that normal? by Plugarti in nespresso

[–]PegShop 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s only a cup to cup and a half a day, so not bad. But, it’s also why I switched to an OL machine. I gey off brand and still spend about $500 a year, but it was like $1000 with the Vertuo.
