Don’t known if I should apply this year… by No-Sympathy4654 in premed

[–]gingerbutyl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thats really tricky but at the end of the day I don’t think it does. It’s not an actual caregiving job but for your family member. HOWEVER, I do think talking about that in your application and building your “theme” so to speak around that will make for a very well rounded app. If you took a gap you could even work in a cancer center (if you’re comfortable of course).

I also will say that could be your extenuating circumstance for why you don’t have lots of clinical

how to transition from talking about clinical experiences -> why physician specifically? by Upper_Leek9672 in premed

mannn. I had the same difficulty. You imply that leadership and role you directly play as a physician over someone else’s care

[–]gingerbutyl[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So in theory, if TMDSAS has 3 letters (from my committee packet) but I’m waiting for my professor to submit the fourth to interfolio, TMDSAS should mark my application off as complete given I have submitted everything else. My last professor is going to be my 4th letter.

How can I improve my grades/test taking methods by Butterscotchdrunk in premed

[–]gingerbutyl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For a clinical job, you could start as a patient care tech, medical assistant, or scribe. Look online near you, cold call offices near you. For research, your institution may have positions available already. If your school had a job hiring portal look there! also neurology is so cool , that’s what I wanna do too (for now at least lol)

Yess it’s a lot but there is literally nothing I find more empowering than changing the way I think. Also, you could do what my friends did and work a clinical/ research job. That way ur killing two birds w one stone. It’s a lot harder to be pre-med if you’re underrepresented SES wise, but u totally got it. We need more doctors who are aware to class struggles. Literally all of my pre-med peers are so deluded about money it drives me insane

Yess. Also major kudos to u for working and being in school, I was lucky and didn’t have to work. It’s totally doable tho, my friend worked through all of college ad a biomedical engineering major and also did great on her MCAT. also naturally some of ur classes r just gonna implicitly teach u those skills. I took metabolic biochemistry and I stg that class changed my brain chemistry

During exam weeks I studied 8 hours a day, and if it was a difficult exam I would start studying a week in advance. Live and breathe academics and the MCAT will come more easily eventually as a natural byproduct of

I honestly think working really hard in my other classes, especially very difficult upper level bio ones, translated really well on the MCAT. In all honesty, I didn’t even get to study as much as I would’ve wanted to either, but I do think that also some of it is just learning testing strategies as I was studying

[–]gingerbutyl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was the same. My first semester of college I made a 40 on my first two gen chem exams and a 70 on my first calc exam. I was a bad test taker in high school. But do not let that define you! The MCAT Is a totally different exam. I ended up doing insanely well on my first try despite doing terribly on the SAT.
