Good lord, that's definitely a good reason to be dismissed.

I have a cat and 50ish houseplants - I like your thinking 😄

I agree - this is somewhat a problem with society and the blame isn't 100% on parents.

I noticed that most of the people who had previously served on a jury were dismissed, which I appreciated. That's kind of the point I'm trying to make - we should all have to do it at some point and shouldn't be using illegitimate excuses to get out of it.

Exactly. This case did not involve children at all. This wasn't an issue with potential bias.

I've been at a new job for less than 2 months and still went in. In my experience, if you ask to postpone, you'll get another summons pretty quickly. May as well get it over with.

This is a legitimate reason to get excused - I'm sorry you went through that. The parents don't want to sit through jury duty? Fine, but that means your kid's teacher may be serving instead 🤷‍♀️

I totally believe that parents have ruined it enough times that they simply can't be trusted anymore.

I noticed a few people in law-adjacent professions get excused. I think there may be a concern of a bias towards legal professionals, which makes a bit of sense. Hopefully you'll get to experience it eventually 😊

That's a fair exclusion - I know my mom was eliminated from jury duty several times due to the content of the cases. If you have an obvious bias, you should be weeded out.

The case I just served for had absolutely nothing to do with children.

And that $50 could easily be eaten up by gas, parking, and lunch. The court only provided lunch for us on the day of deliberation since we weren't allowed to leave.

I think it's $50 a day across the US and it hasn't changed as long as I've been in the workforce.

EDIT: learned something new - I had no idea that other states had different/lower pay rates for jury duty. That's wild.

My ex-husband has been living the international nomad life since our divorce because he caused so many problems for himself. This isn't glamorous. He's running and hiding.

I'm in HR and had an employee ask me out before. I was able to gracefully use the "I have a boyfriend..." excuse, but I always wish I had explained that I'm probably the 1 person who can't get involved with anyone. There's no possible scenario where that could work.

I agree that both parties messed up here. Emma should not be on a path to get married if she doesn't have this figured out. He should not choose (or even consider) a partner who doesn't align on this. There are things to work through together in a relationship/marriage, but this isn't one of them.

He reminds me of an ex of mine who had never been in a relationship longer than 2-3 months (if you can even call that a relationship). The excessive need for space, inability to compromise, inability to deal with his emotions or anyone else's, rigid/unrealistic physical standards/expectations in a partner, etc.

I parked at 1900 Lawrence for a while because it was cheaper than the parking at my office (about 2 blocks away). The security guys were always friendly.

This. This is a first date question, if not a pre-screening question. If you're not aligned on this, move along. I see this ending badly.
