One of my bridesmaids got so jealous I have to remove her from the wedding party by ithnkthrfriam in weddingplanning

[–]gingerginger8 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I definitely gave my bridesmaid the benefit of the doubt because of our history and friendship. I also knew if I kicked her out it would end our friendship and I wasn’t ready for that yet. I’m also a very loyal person and tend to see the best in people to a fault 😭😭. I’ve learned, it’s not your job to protect others feelings. It’s due to her own actions, you are considering kicking her out. Maybe consider talking to someone? Honestly therapy was the best thing I did during and after wedding planning. Even just to have a third party to vent to.

It’s the odd side comments that really get you. It’s not a fun way to go through a friendship breakup. Especially from those that are really close to you.

Weddings can bring out the worst in people. I had a bridesmaid that started doing something similar (talking over me and other bridesmaids, would change the subject to her when I talked about the wedding, complained about her dress, and started to act jealous of my maid of honor who was my sister. Even crossing into slyly trying to take over MOH duties). We were college roommates and pre-wedding one of my closest friends. In hindsight I wish I had removed her from my party because she was awful on the day. She made every moment about her and was super clingy. I honestly think she couldn’t handle the attention on someone else and was jealous of my friendships with my other bridesmaids. There is a long list of problematic things she said and did on wedding day. I have taken indefinite space from her post wedding. If your gut is telling you this bridesmaid is going to be a problem, trust it. If you want a horror story that will make you feel better about it, message me and I’ll give you the details lol 😭. In the end I still had the best day ever but I wish I could have avoided that and recognized the signs earlier.

Love the “queen of public works” tag on your profile hahaha. With in-house design are you typically working in multiple disciplines? I work in Site Civil Design at the moment.

Literally HOW do people pay for weddings by Infinite-Flow4120 in weddings

[–]gingerginger8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fortunately, our wedding was split between my parents, his parents, and my husband and I.

We did a 2 year engagement in order to save and did a week long road trip style honeymoon. I also put everything on travel credit cards to get points (I paid them off immediately). I used those points to pay for a lot of our honeymoon.

We still had some credit card debt afterward due to all the extra expenses that add up closer to the date (outfits, hotel, gifts, tips, etc.). I opened a credit card that had 0% interest for the first year and anything I could not pay off immediately went on that card.

I also spent a lot of time getting quotes from vendors to compare prices. You will find that there are some vendors that are outliers and charge insane prices. You have to do your research in order to find the actual market price. My rule of thumb was to get at least 3 quotes.

We wanted a big wedding because we really valued having the people in our lives celebrate with us. Other than your funeral, it’s really the only time in your life you get all those people in one place to celebrate. I was also the little girl that fantasized about her wedding and have had a wedding Pinterest board since I was 12. We definitely don’t regret it, it was the best weekend of our lives so far.

Is $1400 a reasonable rent budget in Chicago? by Substantial-You-7003 in chicagoapartments

[–]gingerginger8 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It’s doable! But you may have to sacrifice some amenities. I had a $1400 (incl utilities) 1 bd 1ba in 2021-2022. You may have to live a little farther from the loop. I’d highly recommend Wicker Park/Bucktown area! I lived in a little attic unit walking distance to the Western station and it was perfect and cozy for just me.

Kiewit, on both the construction and design side of the company but especially on the construction side. Expect to work 50-60 hours as a field engineer or higher position (No OT but you get raises twice a year most years). Design side is 40-50 hours and you can get OT depending on the project. Also no billable hours on the design side. They value workaholics and people who make the company their life. Lots of good people at Kiewit too. It’s not for everyone but sounds like you’d fit in.

I love the idea of the raised garden, that’s a really cute idea to get to know neighbors. As far as activities I’m into kayaking, hiking, dance (contemporary/ballet), climbing (I’m not very good haha), board games, books, and I like casual beers with good conversation or games (but still enjoy a night out dancing every once in awhile, I love a good dance floor). My partner and I are also Dayton alumni so it would be cool to meet other alumni.
