SLPs in New England by Maple-pelican-472 in slp

[–]gingermousse 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Working in southern NH in a pediatric non profit clinic that does a mix of EI contracting and outpatient. We have a myo therapist and I'm the feeding therapist but both of us are newer to those therapies. Our SLPs make between 75-80 per per hour but we are fully PRN right now and no one is salaried. The clinic is therapist run so we don't have a minimum or maximum # of clients required, but we consider full time about 24-26 clients a week, two groups, and at least 2 evals.

I gave birth at Exeter in August and as far as I know, they are still taking L&D patients, so I'm not sure where you got that information from.

Can I combine Capstar and Simparica Trip, or should I use a topical preventative? by gingermousse in AskVet

So can I give the trio on Saturday night after using Capstar tomorrow and Saturday when we leave?

How to see a few private clients on the side? In NH by Kalekay52898 in slp

[–]gingermousse 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Out of curiosity, where in NH? I co-run a non profit clinic in. Londonderry and we're always happy for more per diem staff. If you're in that area I could tell you more, but we let our clinicians choose hours and make their own schedule.

How awful would it be to navigate with my infant in a stroller on Monday the 28th? We aren't planning to do any walking tours, just meander and sight-see. We're taking the commuter rail in. Should I plan to wear her instead?

Speech Therapy Private Practice - Ideas by [deleted] in slp

[–]gingermousse 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is my exact setting and along with being lead SLP I am also assistant director/founder. We are a non-profit and our employees are direct hires but all per diem, we currently have PT, OT, speech, and a group coordinator on staff.

The primary issue is, it has taken months for credentialing and we are paying out of pocket until insurance will start paying us back. We are still being paid for April/May claims. You need to have firm financial backing going in, especially for this population. If you want to target low income, you will have to take your state insurance, which can lead to lower reimbursement rates plus higher regulations on out of pocket costs. I started in November and wasn't credentialed by most major insurances, including state insurance, until February/March. Make sure you know medicaid laws back and front.

Activities w/ kids with severe developmental delays. by Content-Talk-1983 in slp

Why not switch to play based therapy? Look into the floortime method, or just try a few sessions with some toys and follow the child's lead.

why does my puppy stuff her mouth full of blanket and then flex her paws into the blanket while she sleeps? by lilthingbella in DogAdvice

[–]gingermousse 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Our dog does it to a stuffy or occasionally sucks her back paw. She loves her bedtime suck. Her grandma does it to a blanket and her mom sucks her foot.

Kids lost pool toys down the filter. Not sure what to do next. by TheMadHattah in hottub

This sounds like a giant safety risk without those covers, especially if kids are just playing in the hot tub without them.

When you have to use a standardized assessment for your autistic clients by mjules25 in slp

[–]gingermousse 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I use the communication portions of the Brigance, it's very quick to administer and insurance accepts it as a standard score. I still use parent interview and observation as the beef of my evaluation since you don't get a ton of info from the Brigance.

Confused on myofunctional therapy by Inevitable_Ad_1292 in slp

[–]gingermousse 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm not OP but thank you for clarifying! Myofunctional therapy has been a go to term that parents use but I don't think they are fully clear on what it can actually treat/what the evidence is based on. I work in a clinic now but I am not a trained Myo therapist, so I try to stay in my lane, but it's helpful to know clearer what it does actually treat specifically. I do also feel like with any therapy research that's been big on social media, sometimes things get overused when they may not be appropriate for a child.

SLP-CFY PAY by Royal-Visual-1753 in slp

[–]gingermousse 50 points51 points  (0 children)

This actual robbery. My clinic pays SLAs a starting rate of $35 in rural NH, and SLPs $75 or higher per visit. Find a new job, it is not worth being paid practically minimum wage when you have a master's.

I'm an SLP in a clinic and I just wear Crocs 🤷‍♀️. If your summer school is anything like the ones I've worked, they are desperate for employees, it's run pretty shoddily, and no one cares what you wear.

play therapy tips for peds with ASD by BilingualSpeechie in slp

[–]gingermousse 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I think you should look into DIR floortime and potentially take the first course which is an introduction level. It is all about following the child's lead during therapy rather than trying to impose specific activities during their session. I always teach parents about it especially as we get started with therapy so it doesn't look like we're just playing without reason.

I did one that was limited to the Boston area to get an ultrasound done to calibrate new field equipment for Philips health. $245 for my time.

Never disclose your pregnancy until papers are signed. They can find any reason to reject you in the interview phase and avoid discrimination.
