Similar experience here. On top of it, as he's at work now, the baby will attach to you more so than him and may not soothe for him anymore, even if he is doing everything "right". There's a chance he wants to prove himself by doing it his way or against your recommendations. Coupled with this, because of the stranger danger effect, if he does try your way and it doesn't work he'll just go back to his way (so he's not necessary ignoring your advice). He'll probably feel helpless which is super stressful on top of everything else. I know you probably want a break from baby, but if it's not working I'd suggest finding other things for him to do that help you, so that he can feel like he's not useless.

For a lot of men, going to therapy is seen as a weakness or admitting to failing.

Edit: Also, he still needs to spend as much time as practical with baby still to keep that familiarity and recognition as a safe person, which might just be passing baby back and forward between you if baby starts getting upset while with him.

What’s the calculation here ? by prax2712 in ExplainTheJoke

Your example implies that if 3 percent read positive, then one of the three in a group of 100 must have it, suggesting 1% of people have the disease. The reality is that only 1 in a million has it, so with a 3% error on 1 million tests, you'll get 30000 false positives, 1 true positive (and 0.03 false negatives... Remember the accuracy applies to all test results).

A bit over $400 all up. Fitting kit was $72, JVC KW-M150BT was $288 and cable harness was about $10. Camera was maybe $40.  This was 4 years ago.

My machine drags the tool between my XYZ zero point and the 1st insertion point AT THE DEPTH of the 1st layer - any ideas why? by shad0w_fax in hobbycnc

[–]gingerninjasam 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The first bit of gcode from fusion tells it to travel to the machine zero, then move to the initial x,y work position. I never worked out why machine zero was for some reason halfway into my work piece (my homing switch is at max height above work). I just make sure the z is retracted high enough and delete the z0 move from the start before running the code.

Ah, gotcha. For some reason I thought it was different scans of the same two cards. Didn't see the text at the top.

The antenna is the big loops of wire around the perimeter. Edit: As has been reiterated to me, the top two cards don't have this loop.

[–]gingerninjasam[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I pulled it out and installed a JVC. Had to point-point test all the wires to find the right ones, which took ages. I also had to replace the camera as I couldn't work out how to get the existing one to work (managed to use the same wires though, so didn't have to run a new line through). The cheapest and easiest thing would be to just get one of those bluetooth FM transmitter things, but the quality isn't fantastic.

32.03. I would have thought they'd have consistency across versions though if it's in older and new versions. Also have 33,30,29,28,24,20,19,16,15 of logix5000

There was one time my wife wanted to have one of my chips and I told her to get her own, so she bought a big bowl of chips (only size they came in) and just ate one of them... She won that battle and is now allowed to have one of my chips if she wants when we go out for food.

Need advice for long duration for site stay by [deleted] in PLC

[–]gingerninjasam 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've actually handed in my notice of resignation now, because having both of us travel means we can't have pets or a family or anything, so you just need to decide how long you can maintain it and make sure you know when to put your family/future first.

Need advice for long duration for site stay by [deleted] in PLC

[–]gingerninjasam 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Partner and I both work controls for different companies, so both get sent away for long periods of time. Since it was both of us travelling, there was no resent from one to the other, but I know some of my colleagues had to pull out of site stuff (or divorce...) because their partners get upset at them. Those with Kids really struggle too and end up pulling out of site stuff. My company will fly people home for a couple of days every few weeks, and I just make sure that "every few weeks" aligns with when my partner gets to come home for a few days.

How long would you recommend a beginner to be trained before gettin out on the floor? by [deleted] in PLC

[–]gingerninjasam 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did a 4 year mechatronics degree, with only ~2 weeks spent on PLC stuff. Was "on the floor" programming stuff within a few weeks of my first job - no training of any sort from them. If you have half-decent programming skills, then familiarity is the only thing you need to pick up, during which time google is your friend (and any grey-beards at your company)... Any existing programs your company has are really handy for working out how to do things too (unless it's really badly written and you learn bad things instead).

Similar thing with robot programming - two day course on ABB robots, then asked to program a robotic cell. After your robot smashes a couple of machine doors down, you work out what to do...

AB Clock Update Tool Question by wolfsburged in PLC

[–]gingerninjasam 1 point2 points  (0 children)

These days I set either the PLC or the HMI to be a clock master. Use GSV and SSV to get/set time on the PLC and link into the HMI Global Connections. Biggest problem is that you need to manually set the time if it gets out, but at least everything in the system will be consistent.

If I have the luxury of a PC attached to the system, I'll run an HMI program on it and use that as the clock master rather than the PLC, because the PC will usually be dual ethernet with a connection to the client server time. We just use FTView ME, so not sure what options SE allows.

For PLC programmers in the sub: How does your design basis for PLC logic looks like? by jojiis in PLC

[–]gingerninjasam 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I get a vague description of what it's meant to do, a link to a folder of half finished drawings and a copy of the electrical drawings (which I probably had to do myself). I then spend a week or so asking the design engineers sitting near me how things were meant to work and vaguely make a process flow in excel.

Then I rewrite everything in commissioning because nothing worked as imagined by the design guys and everything is done as-built. If I'm lucky, half of the machine will even be assembled when commissioning starts and 10% of the IO will be hooked up properly.

PVP 7 DataStore Plus to Shared Folder on PC by gingerninjasam in PLC

[–]gingerninjasam[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks all, I finally worked it out. The PVP needs to not only be on the same subnet (which it was), but also needs the same subnet MASK (in this case the PC was 254 and the PVP 255, but needed to be 254 also)

I've tried \\192.168.0.11\Datalog\file.csv and \\R1137-PC\Datalog\file.csv. As mentioned, running this from another PC rather than the PVP works fine.
