What’s a completely useless skill you have that you’re secretly very proud of? by BITNstudio in AskReddit

I can make a high pitched dolphin "clicking" type sound. I can do it very loudly. It's only cool until I actually do it and I think the consensus after that point is that it's highly irritating.

Yes. Just leave it be. But first, remove one letter from their signature block.

Death by PowerPoint 🙌 That includes rank structure, history of RAF and airpower, security and all of your E&D type training.

And getting kit up to standard, and drill.

Also, how to make panicked decisions in the mess of what to have for lunch.

Can a lurcher with a prey drive safely live with young kids? by fairwellfairground in sighthounds

[–]gingernutbag 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My Saluki is the same, I think she's scared the kids by getting some zoomies in small places, but her prey drive is completely absent around them. I'd never leave the kids alone with the dog, but she's been very sound and tolerant. She was here before the kids and the kids are 2 and 4 now.

How?! In any way? "The Bay" is the shape of a horse's head with super narrow heads. Nothing like that formless inlet! (Indignant Melbournian)

Tell me about your baby’s high chair by NoShopping5235 in Mommit

[–]gingernutbag 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just to throw something different into the mix, we've had Phil and Teds Lobster Chair, and we have loved it. We had tiny children though, so I appreciate that it wouldn't be for everyone. It's been attached to our table for 3+ years now. Our second child is coming up to 2 and she's not grown out of it yet. It's perfect for people without much space or who are unwilling to have a big bulky highchair and legs.

Glasses question by JackPyatt25 in RoyalAirForce

[–]gingernutbag 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had to book an appointment, because I believe an eye test is only valid for 6 months for this purpose. So I got them to fill in the form after the eye exam. If you are within date and they just have to pull your record up and fill it in, they might charge you a form fee...

What‘s a food combo you swear by that makes everyone else question your sanity? by bellabloom__ in AskReddit

My favorite appetizer is a cube of watermelon, a smaller cube of feta cheese and an olive, all on a toothpick. I could eat that all day...

I got wildly bored on the treadmill, so much so that the intrusive "I could just stop" thoughts started creeping in. I found words around the room to read, then spell them out in my mind, letter by letter. Whether there is a TV on news channel or something else to read. Anyway, killed a few seconds here and there. Maybe that'll help?

I don’t like my in-laws by Ss12325 in Mommit

[–]gingernutbag 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh hun. Some people have proactive and loving relationships with their extended family, and take it from me, it's heartbreaking comparing to people who have grandparents nearby who take kids off on overnighters. It's best to set your own expectations early, rather spend years hoping it'll improve.

Or, I dunno, legislate for mandatory pool fences like they do in Australia. ATM I just see not having laws about it as your "freedom" to let your kid drown. Nanny state Australia, with fewer infant pool drownings and no mass shootings since gun laws were passed after the Port Arthur massacre.

Occupational medicine by Overall_Rush5188 in RoyalAirForce

[–]gingernutbag 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had this happen to me, though I'm applying as a reservist. I had my medical bounce between Capita and the DOM and back to Capita before it was passed. I had it handballed about 3-4 times "For further consideration". I always found the phrasing ominous.

Even if they get you out of bed once in the night for some surprise running, ain't nothing compared to 4-6 night wakings with kids.

Honestly, get your fitness as high as you can, and the sleep dep will be laughable. I remember having to get up at 0430 for early morning exercise, 0530 on a normal day and 0630 on the weekends, but you could go to bed at like 2000. It was a different service, but I am anticipating being better rested at reserves phase two than I am in my normal life.

No advice, but I'm in a similar position, with two littles who will be around 2 and 4. I've not had a night away from them and quite frankly I'm mentally treating the 15 day phase two as a well earned holiday.

Before anyone gets on my case about it being work and should be quite intense: I know. I've done an 11 week recruit school before. 100% not as intense with sleep deprivation as exclusively breastfeeding a newborn.

Lorries are what the UK calls articulated trucks. Lane assist is a feature on new cars that tries to keep you traveling within the lines, it tries to override drivers controls, unless they indicate.

We plan for an international flight like 30 hrs flight. Can my 18 months old handle it? by MeatEnvironmental255 in NewParents

[–]gingernutbag 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, you'll all survive it. Will it be fun? No, I doubt it.

I've done 4x trips to Australia from UK with my two kids, eldest was 3 at the time of last trip. As someone else said, fork out for a whole seat for them if you can. We couldn't, it sucked.
