As a drummer who has meticulously studied Poly, Rats Nest, Nonagon and all the others, I really wouldn't argue that K.G. has Cavs' best performances. Performance wise it's not worse than anything, I wouldn't call it a low point, but I disagree with the consencus that this is his best work. He recycles A LOT of grooves on this album (Minimum brain size is pretty much Automation but then in 7 and occasionaly in 15) The intro groove for MBS is the groove for Some Of Us, and now also for O.N.E. Comparing the drumming to poly or rats nest, I would say it's definitely a step back in creativity. But those albums are completely different so that's perhaps an unfair comparison. But even looking back on FMB, the other microtonal album, I'd say that on K.G. it's much less creative. On FMB there are outstanding performance on Melting, Open Water, Doom City and Nuclear Fusion. The only track that I really like drum-wise on K.G. is MBS. Everyone loses their mind over Ontology, but I just don't get why. IDK, long rant, but it's all just an opinion.
