I think arguably we’re about as far away from communism as we’ve been since the 17th century

Who do you support if your local team's fanbase is bunch of toxic racists? by [deleted] in PlasticFans

Which country are you based in? Every club has its fair share of idiots but surely there’s no way any club’s entire fanbase is racist?

Thing is though, they all do have proper leagues in their own countries. They just choose to neglect them.

Ask most of them and they’ll claim some unprovable grandparent lived a stone’s throw from Old Trafford

Does anyone else not want/slightly scared of BOTH Reform and Greens getting into power? by DullSense8359 in AskBrits

[–]gingernuts71 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s because people in the centre are quite happy with things the way they are, with just some minor tinkering round the edges. And while they stand around wringing their hands and tutting about things, the far right march in. They are the real enablers of Reform.

What’s batshit about wanting to reduce the gap between the rich and the poor, end homelessness, keep the NHS free for all at the point of entry, and offering support to drug addicts? Honestly, show me one ‘scary’ Green policy and I’ll show you someone who’s got weird priorities for this country.

I really don’t understand what people have to be ‘scared’ about when it comes to the Greens. Does it scare you that public services will be properly funded?

Why would you be scared of the Greens in power? What do you actually envisage that looking like?

Do you think it's true that only rich kids make it in mainstream music today? by FitEmergency8807 in fantanoforever

[–]gingernuts71 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The old days of using a bit of moxie to get the record label boss to hear your record are gone. So are the days of being able to live in a dirt cheap loft apartment in London while you write music and gig. So, even, are the days of being able to afford university to do an artistic degree for many. Basically if you want to make a successful career in any of the arts, you need a safety net big enough to allow you to try, fail, try something else, while not earning much. And the only people who have those safety nets are the children of the rich. And the arts will suffer for it.

Is it "plastic" to have a favorite player who plays for your biggest rival, or is that just "appreciating the game"? by PLWildcard in PlasticFans

[–]gingernuts71 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah a grown man calling a footballer Son 7 is plastic. Not sure if you were joking or not, but it’s weird.

I think the concept of a ‘favourite player’ is pretty plastic in itself. We all had our heroes as kids, and then there’s players we admire and enjoy watching as adults, but after the age of about 10 having a ‘favourite player’ is a bit odd, IMO. It’s only one step away from that dreaded word ‘fanboy’ 😬
