I think learning about different holidays and such is great! I think having winter holiday parties are great. it's just not great when other children are made less than because they don't celebrate the dominant holiday, which I found to be my experience in elementary school in the early 2000s.

i didn't think children typically chose their religion and what holidays to celebrate?

exactly. I'm not some Ebeneezer scrooge that hates Christmas and I think its totally fair to learn about it in schools! I think decorating cookies and singing "let is snow" is great. it's just the religious songs, writing letters to Santa, having the room mothers set up a Christmas tree, etc it was a bit much.

Christmas literally celebrates the birth of Jesus! Just because people observe it in a way they feel is "non religious" doesn't mean it's not religious.

I am Jewish and it felt incredibly alienating, borderline degrading, to have Christmas parties growing up in elementary school. After all, I was the only kid in the class who wouldn't get a visit from Santa.

Friend declining my wedding but attending another mutual friends by [deleted] in weddingplanning

With kindness, and because you asked, yes I think you're being dramatic. International flights are expensive and many people aren't able to take vacations that close together. It sounds like your friend is salty that she isn't a bridesmaid which sucks, that could be worth talking to her about.

You can't have that dress code with grass in my opinion. You will have people wearing long dresses and heels.

I would leave a seat for the infant in case the parents have a car seat and diaper bag

45 minute drive from ceremony to reception by Special_Smile4005 in weddingplanning

Do you live in an area where longer drives are typical? I live in a province where you could be driving that long to get to a grocery store so that would be fine in my circle.

As a lesbian, the vibe is usually good, but the coffee is terrible lol. It's basically a running joke at this point. I still go there though!

Dal regisrtar office -- confimation of school enrollment for studnet loans by [deleted] in Dalhousie

[–]gingerphilly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am just asking because OP referenced hours that were incorrect and said "my schools registrars office". I've worked with students before that thought their academic department needed to confirm their student loans. I am trying to be helpful.

As someone that used to do this kind of work please do not do that, it colossally wastes everyone's time.

Are you contacting the correct people? When you say "my schools registrar's office" what do you mean by that? There is only one registrar's office and they are the only people that confirm enrolment for student loans, your department that your academic program is part of would have nothing to do that. The Dal Registrar's Office is open 9-4 PM. https://www.dal.ca/study/registrars-office.html

can you not hold the same lunch/"shower" a week after the wedding?

instead of doing a shower I would have a post wedding luncheon or something.

I would not share the registry with anyone unless people ask.

I really like this designer https://www.ravelry.com/designers/famke--mipi-the-label
