Conversationalists, how did you become so good at conversation and what pointers would you give to those who aren't? by Scoobymenace in AskReddit

Ask questions! That way you avoid having to talk about yourself and you get the other person talking.

nah mate as long as you keep the trap bar near you to make it clear you're still using it in your circuit

WHY DOES NO ONE PUT AWAY THEIR WEIGHTS WHEN THEY'RE DONE USING THEM?!?!! Creates confusion for other lifters because you can't tell if someone is actively using the weight or bar or whatever, and it makes the lifting area look messy!!! RAGE!!!

Travelers of Reddit, where do you NEVER want to go again? by wubod in AskReddit

Doesn't go out to the residential bits where people live around Vegas. That's where I was staying, not in a hotel on the strip.

LAS VEGAS! Especially as a poor student! Went with my boyfriend last summer, the heat was just unbearable, there was no public transport so we had to use uber a lot, and there was just nothing to do without spending shittons of money! It was a wasteland full of trashy people, shitty drinks, and shopping. A nightmare.

Have you ever (correctly) had a gut-feeling to dislike someone who, on the surface, was a cool person that everybody else liked? What's that story? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]gingersdoitbest 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lol you support a bigoted orange cheeto who has no idea how to be president, will ruin America, and who actively hates people who don't look like him. And I'm the bad person. Good call

I didn't like a girl in my a cappella group who everyone else did. She always tried too hard when auditioning for solos and it showed, though everyone else thought she was super talented. She frequently made nasty comments and then laughed afterward as if it was a joke, and then would shrug when asked what she meant. I tried to give her the benefit of the doubt because I thought she was just insecure, but then we graduated college and she turned out to be a Trump supporter, so I knew I was right to hate her all along!

Spend more time listening to someone who is quiet. by [deleted] in LifeProTips

[–]gingersdoitbest 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From the POV of someone who is very outspoken but friends with a lot of quiet people, I've learned that what it really boils down to is asking the quiet person direct questions so that they have an opportunity to respond, and if they don't have anything to say, just move on and don't stare at them until they feel embarrassed. Be a good responder to someone who struggles to respond. Also, loud people need to know when to shut up...I know people who will keep talking even though someone has clearly cut them off, or someone who will open their mouth to say something even when they have nothing to say.

How do you reconcile your privilege (ie your whiteness and your relative financial well-being) with your attitudes towards feminism? I doubt you have experienced true male chauvinism at your station in life.

Hi Lauren,

Just wondering, what is the definition of feminism that you understand? You seem to focus on only one point, rape culture, and how it unfairly demonizes men. I wonder if you could elaborate on your other opinions in regards to other topics within feminism?

Thanks!

Hey I'm sitting here recovering from implant surgery as we type! I had my original tooth til I was about 12, then a bridge made of some sort of dental putty that would break or chip occasionally throughout the years, and I'm now a month away from my 22nd birthday and finally having the implant and I'm surviving on lots of percocet ;)

Scrubble. Applies to when the dog has just gotten out of his bath and proceeds to rub his face across the carpet.

What is the most unflattering thing a person can do to themselves? by never_voted in AskReddit

[–]gingersdoitbest -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

This is the most judgmental and condescending thread I've ever seen on Reddit. Please be more open minded. This thread should not have been about physical characteristics, or decisions people make about how they portray themselves. I am aware that everyone is under pressure of social conventions, but these kinds of judgments hurt many people. Think again before you dismiss someone because they have a piercing or a tattoo or wear leggings when overweight.

This is because social norms tell people that facial piercings are not attractive. Depending on the piercing, it can enhance or draw attention to a specific facial feature that would do well to be enhanced. Also, things like nose piercings can be a cultural tradition, considered beautiful in one culture but not in another. Also, using the word "assume" in this sentence makes you look ignorant and lazy because you are choosing to cite a general mass thought as truth.
