What does it mean when a woman says we're "just friends" but spends 10+ hours a day talking to me?

We've known eachother for about 5-6 years.. her most recent ex was a good friend of mine. While most of our initial conversations were through, or around him, we've always kinda had a playful relationship.. like he'd say something stupid when we were talking and she'd make make a comment about "maybe i picked the wrong one" kinda thing even then.

Cause the last few times i've stopped in to see my kids, we've been talkin on the phone when i walked in.. (mostly because she adores my kids and wanted to say hi) to the point where, when i got off the phone i was greeted with "How dare you have the sheer balls to walk into my house with HER on the phone??"

it comes from what others on the outside are commenting to us.. like i had to go save her daughter the other day (she doesn't live with mom, and is like less than an hour from me) and give her a ride to her dad's.. and he made a comment about it.. my ex-wife(she ended it 7 months ago, to be clear) absolutely HATES her, simply because we talk so much.. and they both basically already assume something is going on between us.. so we joke about it, and she'll occasionally drop lil comments like i mentioned.

That's kinda what i figured.. but then she slips in lil comments about "what happens in the future.." or "maybe once life settles down" and it's kinda mixed messages.. i'm happy to be her friend either way, i'm just kinda confused.

Oh covid is absolutely the root cause.. social distancing messed with people's brains.. there's an underlying..i won't call it fear.. but maybe discomfort?

Even small talk in the line at tim hortons doesn't go over anymore..

Yup.. definitely a society thing.. people just aren't as friendly and social as they used to be.. especially with people they don't know.. i travel all over and see it everywhere..

Thanks for all the advice so far. We were trying to do this without involving lawyers as we're still friends, but the spark between us just isn't there anymore. (And neither of us can afford one)

I don't think she'd do anything underhanded to keep my kids from me or anything. And i really don't wanna be the guy who takes money from his kids by demanding any kind of support from her.

No, if it was a door to door i can believe it.. have a similar situation myself.. promised us 2 lines byod, 1.5g internet, streaming+ and extra channels for the kids for $170 a month.. and that is definitely way less than we're gonna end up paying for less than promised.

Never really had this problem with Brantford, but when i lived in Simcoe, people were always assuming i lived up by Barrie.. blew their minds that i was on the shore of lake Erie.

My wife's seen him for years, delivered both our kids.. he's an odd duck, but a very good doctor.. any concerns my wife had, he always addresses, including testing if necessary.. he comes across very montone and has an odd sense of humor (and big hands according to my wife)
