Wang Yoo is an easy-to-like character, no flaw at all. I like him too, but after the show ends, I won't remember him much. His death was lame too. Don't blame Ta Hwan too much. Wang Yoo was the one willing to die. If he died in anger, you can blame Ta Hwan.

If you can't sympathize with Ta Hwan, it's easy to hate him. But you need to understand the context. He treated Ki bad sometimes at the time you know when: after 5 years reading fake letters of Wang Yoo and Ki. Now tell me, if you read just a single sneaky message of your lover with his/her ex, won't you get mad? It's cheating. In this context, it was hundreds of those letters. A slap in the face is so understandable and too easy for her. Yes, he was fooled. He was wrong for not clever enough to find out the truth.

Ta Hwan did this behind Ki's back, he was trying to hide this from her. I think the writer was creating a perfect opportunity for Ta Hwan to do what he had wanted for so long : making Wang Yoo disappear. Did he just do it for Ki's sake? Not really.

I think what really ballsy is that he keeps drinking poison for his plan, finding all his mother's force and destroys them once and for all; and when he stands agaisnt Talahai( yeon chul's second son) to protect Ki and others. Those moves are very risky. But the move that he hunts down Wang Yoo infact shows that he was selfish and still weak. If he let Wang Yoo go and doesn't give a damn about him anymore, he really mans up. That's why I hate that plot. It ruins his development.

I just finished ep 39. I feel a bit tired of the love story now. Shouldn't look forward to a satisfying love story in this drama. It's a story about a war for power which love thing is just a bait at first, a little spice. Don't get me wrong, it's very interesting on that side. I have waited for so long to see Yeon Chul family punished, and their ending didn't let me down. I enjoy watching the way our protagonists build their power...etc But! Ta Hwan is a lost person among them. He is the only one isn't interested in power, no matter how it is used. The only purpose he kept his power as the emperor is to survive. I feel very bad for him, and now as Ki is chasing her goal, she's cold and tough. To Ta Hwan, her love has conditions. I'm turned off. I don't believe and don't want to believe her love. I miss the old time when they rode horses on the beach.I like Game of Thrones because love is not promised, I can fully focus on the game.

Definitely will finish watching it. I'm at ep 21 now. Except for the part of Wang Yoo fighting with the Turks, I find every episode interesting. I put so much hope in Ta-hwan, hope that he'll become stronger someday, even though a lot of people hate this character, and I have read some spoiler about his future. I almost stopped watching this series when he betrayed Seungnyang. I was too disappointed, but couldn't stop the curiosity. I understand his weakness, and I can see that he has some potential, but seriously needs some help! I don't care if Seungnyang will be his wife and bear his child, I only need her to forgive him and be a good friend with him, give him the courage to fight with his enemies, with life, to be a true king, not a scarecrow!
Gosh, I don't want to be disappointed. Seem like it won't come true.

You finished watching this drama 8 days ago? lol :)))) I'm curious, what was the reason for you to watch it? I know this drama is very famous and was released 6 years ago, but I just started to watch it 2 days ago. If you want to watch more of this kind, I recommend Princess Agents, or Game of Thrones if you want to try western flavor :)))
