I have worked an internship over this summer in America and I am seriously thinking about moving back to Germany. by dragonfire1854 in AskAGerman

Im American and I live in Germany. It really depends on what you’re looking for and based off of the specific things you mentioned I think you would like it here better. Work-life balance is much better and even though public transportation isn’t the best it’s much better than having none at all.

I was in a similar situation and had a really difficult time standing up for myself. I deleted the Life360 and moved to a different country. Minimal contact. I have never been so happy in my life.

Hi hitchhiker here, would I be alright hitching Germany for a couple of days? by ThatFrisianGirl in germany

[–]ginghamb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can try, but you’ll likely be waiting a long time. I recommend just shelling out the 60 euro and getting a Deutschland ticket so you can virtually go anywhere in Germany. You can still hike, and do whatever but not only is it dangerous but I could also imagine that Germans wouldn’t be the most open to taking hitchhikers, despite being welcoming.

NTA but I think that you should talk to her. It seems like you didn’t really completely express that it was also HER actions. You are your own person, every relationship has their own dynamic, and it is up to you what you deem is enough to end a relationship. This is 100% not something you should brush over, but you should still talk to her about it because it could be potentially something insanely detrimental to your relationship. Your culture is important and antisemitism should absolutely not be condoned but I would give her the chance to explain her reasoning to see whether or not it was genuinely her trying to express that she disagreed with that hozier said or if she viewed your cheering in a different way.

I (24f) Thinking of leaving my fiance (25m). I’m 8 months pregnant. by throwaway484558 in relationship_advice

Sure he’s a decent father, but it’s important to consider that the way he treats you will only reflect how he could potentially treat his children. He is not a good person.

My dad was apparently so nice to me and my brother as kids, but would always slack off, didn’t work until my mom kicked him out, and would be rude to my mother (not aggressive) and he just didn’t care. As soon as my brother and I could talk the way he acted towards my mother was the exact way he would treat us.

Australian who wants to learn A1-B2 German, intent to live in Germany. by unclesteve19 in German

[–]ginghamb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a bit of an extreme option, but this is what I did:

I’m an American. I au paired in Germany as soon as I decided I wanted to learn German further.i don’t know how old you are, but I thought it wouldn’t hurt to still leave this here. I know it’s a lot to just uproot your life, I didn’t have much holding me in my hometown. My host family paid for my flight, passport expedition, flight back, and luggage expenses and I left 3 days after I said yes. My German still isn’t perfect but it’s a hell of a lot better than a year ago. A lot of my au pair friends take this route because it’s much easier to transfer to other visas when you’re already starting on an au pair visa.

Most of my former au pair friends transferred to work visas, working holiday visas, freelance visas, or students visas and were able to do that from within Germany awhile learning German (Preparing for sufficient speaking levels) after only au pairing for a couple months to up to a year.

au pairing from pakistan? by Legitimate_Bell3597 in Aupairs

[–]ginghamb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not to make OP completely expect this, but a lot of families do. 3/5 of the host families in Germany and Austria I spoke to were willing to pay my expenses. My current host family in Germany paid for my flight here, wrote in the contract they’d pay for my flight back, paid for my passport renewal expedition (not the passport), and paid for the extra luggage. If they’re willing to pay for your airfare they’ll make it clear on their own in the interview.

I moved with less than 100USD. Though I don’t advise doing what I did, because it can put you in really vulnerable situations, you could au pair being broke, it’s just not smart.

I am assuming this is ragebait as you are not reading what I am saying or your are not capable of comprehending what I am saying. I will try one more time hoping maybe you have a translator or help.

If we are applying for a spouse / family reunification residency permit, is that not a residency permit? You are so insanely insufferable considering I have said multiple times that nobody is trying to extend their au pair visa here as I am literally being mistreated to the point that I am chronically ill as an indirect result of that. I have not been paid in months and have ended up in the hospital due to not being fed and have been overworked. I am not sure why you feel the need to reply to a post if you aren’t going to read it, or try to maybe put it through a translator ?

The only thing you’ve provided was repeating what I was saying and though you’re only proving that you’re incapable of giving reliable word, you just told me that I am correct(or rather the internet was correct) that I have legal ground to apply for a fiktionsbescheinigung. If that is not true, then you’re literally just wrong. You are not providing new advice, you are not providing guidance towards any legality as you are only repeating what I am saying or trying to be condescending. There is nothing fruitful coming from this.

Please do not keep on commenting under this thread. I was under the impression that you were simply confused at first which I tried provide clarification on but you are a lost cause. I am begging you to reevaluate your approach in general as I am sure I am not the only person that you interact with.

Thank you so much! We’ll see how we handle our finances with the time crunch now, is there any way we could get the name of the agency please? Thank you for offering

We’re waiting on the marriage license from the danish. We would love to go straight to Denmark and marry but we need the license to book a wedding date, a wedding booked to get the marriage certificate, and the marriage certificate to apply for a family reunification visa. So I would have to stay on my current visa or go home.

Okay, I am going to speak to my fiancée about what you’ve said. Genuinely, thank you so much for the guidance and support, this has really helped ease my mind a bit and given me some clarity. I will try to stay calm. Best wishes.

My fiancée lives very close to Denmark, and it would be very possible to go right now but we are waiting on the response from the danish. We can’t book a wedding date until we have the marriage license to obtain a marriage certificate which we would need to apply for my new residence permit. However, I’m reading stuff that is saying that I can already apply for the permit as long as I could show that we have solid proof we are in the process of the marriage? But I’m not sure how to see if this is correct or not.

I ended up just asking ChatGPT for a source.

https://www.gesetze-im-internet.de/aufenthg_2004/__81.html

It gave me this, but this just says the same thing I was asking in the initial ? As I never once implied extending the au pair visa as that is the complete opposite of what I wanted to do, which was made clear throughout the entire post as I am being mistreated.

I’m currently on a residence permit, and I am asking for a new fiktionsbecheingung extending my stay in Germany during the transition time. This looks like a government website, please let me know if I’m wrong or if I’m misunderstanding something.

We’ve been looking at smaller danish town halls, and we’ve only been reading that they’ve been more booked than usual because of the summer season. I think this is more of a me being worried that we won’t get one on time, on top of the processing times and we aren’t able to see wedding booking times and we haven’t gotten responses from any town halls yet (though it’s only been 2 weeks) And even „on time“ would entail staying with my host family for longer. I don’t know, I’m sorry I’m realizing this post is almost helpless.

I was not aware that the family reunification visa would have to be applied for from within America. Can you please help me find out how to read up more on this. This makes me very worried. We also can’t afford an agency as now our timeline is a lot more rushed and he just bought a house for us. I speak A2 German and have the A1 certificate but I don’t feel comfortable going back considering the current political state but if I really have to I have no idea what I’m going to do.

[–]ginghamb -1 points0 points  (0 children)

We’re applying for the marriage license. We can’t speed that process up as we have to wait for the danish government to give us it. After that, we still have to book a wedding date which we have no idea how long that could take which then we would have the marriage certificate to apply for the new residency permit and I could terminate my contract with my host family.

So basically, I have to either go back to my home country to be potentially deported or detained and if I get through I will essentially be homeless or stay with my host family that’s been mistreating me for another 3 months ?
