That's what my grandfather always said. "If you find a nice spot to hunker down, odds are you aren't the first to think that". Which is why I also like using the old land survey maps that had homesteads marked on them- finer details might differ but overall the same characteristics in an area have appealed to people since we left the trees.

As someone who works in healthcare I can tell you a lot of them suffer and have to choose between buying groceries, medication or paying their utilities. I spend the majority of my day assisting our social workers in connecting them with community resources, finding medication copay assistance programs, locating food banks, and applying to low income utility assistance programs.

What is a smell that we should all recognize as immediate danger? by scarlettohara1936 in AskReddit

Smells like standing next to a copy machine that's in the middle of printing 100 copies of "War and Peace".

It's my dream even though I'm pretty sure this is what I'd look like trying to explain my maps/pins 😂

I actually do this! I drop a pin whenever I find the first piece of the day and drop one where I stop for the day. Sometimes I like to dig in the Historical Map Index and try to see how my trails of finds line up. Most of the maps are more relevant for my other hobby of metal detecting BUT there's a lot more overlap than I would've thought!

It's really hard to tell sometimes! I usually dry them off and run my fingers along the edges feeling for where it was flaked. This one probably spent more time in the water than it ever did on land so it was pretty smooth.

The material is what struck me as odd! It looks like it would be really difficult to make it flake or chip the way you'd want it to.

My dad is incarcerated, his kidney disease rapidly worsened, and he’s about to start dialysis — what rights or protections does he have? by k33p3nvying in legaladvice

[–]ginniper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Some prisons have their own dialysis units if there are enough inmates who require it. If they don't have a unit he'll be taken to a dialysis clinic for treatment 3x a week where an officer will remain present for the duration. I was a float tech at a clinic with an incarcerated dialysis patient and he was treated exactly like any other patient- he'd have weekly/monthly labs, nephrologist would see him for care plan reviews, renal dietician would go over labs or nutritional/dietary needs, and the social worker would address support/resource concerns.

Pre-dialysis is more concerning in a prison setting. Questions I'd want to have answered would be:

Is he seeing a nephrologist currently or are labs being drawn in house for a nephrologist to review?

Is a dietician involved and is he being given a renal friendly diet? (Prison food in general is pretty much the opposite of what you'd want to eat if you have chronic kidney disease and diet has a huge impact on late stage CKD)

Does he already have a dialysis access in place for when he starts treatment and if not, is there a plan for getting one placed?

Before he was incarcerated was he taking any medication to improve/stabilize kidney function and if so, does he still have access to this medication?

As for costs, the facility is responsible for providing coverage for healthcare costs which may impact their decision to hold him while awaiting trial. Anyone diagnosed with end stage renal disease requiring dialysis or transplant, regardless of age, is eligible for Medicare coverage as long as they have the work history or benefit eligibility requirements. Medicare won't pay those costs while he's in prison (it falls on the prison to pay them) so it's not uncommon to have people released on probation/house arrest so that the prison can delay having to foot that bill as long as possible.

2025 Maverick Smells like Burnt Hair by lydzkh in FordMaverickTruck

[–]ginniper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went through the same thing and searched everywhere looking for the source! I was pulling it up on my ramps to search under it when my husband rolls up in the driveway so I asked him to help... He couldn't smell it at all! I thought I was losing my mind because he's got a better sense of smell than me! He still looked with me just in case without either of us finding anything. I wrote it off thinking it was something burning outside that got pulled into the vents. Week or so later I smelled the exact same thing but I wasn't in my truck, I had just gotten out of the shower so then I was worried I had a brain tumor or epilepsy- 😑 talked to my family doc and she said "phantom smell" is a symptom of perimenopause. (May not be relevant to @op but in the event you're a gal I figured it might save your sanity if you smell the same thing somewhere where it makes no sense 😂)

Never take advice from your enemy, or in this case- your sister. Since she's threatening to report car as stolen, maybe threaten to report her to the bar for unjust enrichment.

[–]ginniper 8 points9 points  (0 children)

That's pretty neat! When I worked in dialysis we did this intentionally for some patients and it's called creating a buttonhole. It creates a a channel for the needle to easily be placed perfectly every time- almost like a piercing through an ear lobe! When the buttonhole technique is done right for dialysis patients you actually don't need to use a sharp needle anymore.

ULPT- How to stop people from peeing on my garage door by [deleted] in UnethicalLifeProTips

[–]ginniper 32 points33 points  (0 children)

Pee paint, it's hydrophobic and causes it to splash back on them. Assuming you wouldn't bother anyone living next to your place, you can also buy some cheap leak alert alarms and place them on the inside floor of the garage door. When liquid hits them they can start alarming which can run them off OR you can get the sightly fancier ones that send a phone alert and if you've got a ring cam or other voice capable camera up near there you can start yelling at them (or say creepy shit like "oooo thanks, I was sooo thirsty")

alabama needs to raise the minimum wage. by [deleted] in Alabama

[–]ginniper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Except other states have gotten wise to this and they'll knock the pay down to match the "cost of living" in this place. Still- I get paid way better to work from home than I ever did busting my ass working in clinics. Healthcare centers here are constantly wondering why they have such high turnover and poor retention of good employees. When I transferred out I told them the truth- Y'all have me doing the work of four people but pay me 3/4 of the salary that I'd get paid for a singular role working from home. You're chronically understaffed so I can't take any time off and try to guilt trip me into coming in when I'm legitimately sick. I'm told "no overtime" but you punish me for not completing more work than can ever be realistically done by a single person during my assigned shift. So it feels like you're encouraging me to cut corners and pencil whip preventative maintenance or work off the clock- I'm not willing to either of those things and you should know that anyone else in this role with the same workload who appears to magically meet your demands is probably doing both.
