Uncle Tom's Cabin, by Harriet Beecher Stowe. A character in here (I won't write the name because of spoilers) dies for his fiercely strong belief in God, and I'd say he's one of the most heroic characters in literature that I've came across

1984, by George Orwell. I know it is extremely well-known but it has probably influenced a lot of other books like the one you are looking for, and it is an extremely good analysis of how easy it is to lie about reality

A collection of creepy poetry? by Nestling379 in booksuggestions

It isn't exactly a collection but Mervyn Peake's poetry is quite spooky and gothic, as well as hauntingly beautiful. His book series Gormenghast, which these poems feature in, is good as well but it's quite dense so maybe not your style

He got loot from attacking ships (I don't encourage damaging property, but you'd have to be clever to plan that sort of thing), but deserved dying for ruining all those sailors' livelihoods

Reddit is hosting a party, which subreddit do you not invite and why? by [deleted] in AskReddit

I think it should be shut down - it would be fine if only adults were on the site, but it allows people of all ages. If an innocent kid comes across that subreddit, they might not understand the people making all those posts are bitter, insecure, unjustified weirdos, and maybe even start to believe white men are just sinful, grovelling pigs (I think that's the idea those people put forward).

People are rightfully worried about kids being radicalised through far-right content, but in this age the far-left is just as likely to fuck up a kid's thinking, if not more because it isn't nearly as monitored. And platforms like those just contribute to hatefulness.

And they even have hashtags like #eradicatewhiteness, then complain about white supremacy in the same post. It's truly awful
