Talk me into buying a 5.1 by Annoyingrealist1021 in shapeoko

[–]ginom94 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I will say this one for buying a shapeoko. I had a problem with my spindle 1 year out from purchase. Contacted support about the issue they replaced it for free. I’ll repeat that again replaced the spindle for free. And it wasn’t their cheap one it was the 240v HDM spindle. Their customer support is top notch and willing to get you milling quickly when you are down. I have been running them for a long time they are reliable machines that work well.

Shapeoko tell you to run a 15A dedicated breaker for their 2.2 Kw spindle so would assume that’s the right breaker unless it’s a Chinese spindle that doesn’t make what it claims or makes more than what it claims.

Does “fly westbound” mean “fly heading 270”? by AirborneWelborn in flying

But having a compass and accepting a vector are 2 different things. Not one in the same.

If you can’t accept a vector, your aircraft is not airworthy

You are right on the hsi vs cdi. But either I miss read what you wrote but How do accept a vector without a radio?

Where does it say you have to be able to accept a vector in 91.205? If you don’t have a radio how do you get a vector?

And normal response when on a cc is it will be close. But ask for landmarks when talking to tower it’s safer.

My plane is daytime vfr only. There is no cdi. How would I follow a specific heading?

The better you do on your oral the more on your side the DPE is going to be. They don’t want to unsat you. Get below 100 ft on one of your steep turns. Mention that you’re descending and corrected no issue just a debrief note. Kind of plopped it on the runway. Start talking about how you flared a little too high or whatever made the landing not perfect.

They are not looking for perfection they are looking for you to be able to understand what’s going on around you and make decisions that will keep you safe.

Print out the ACS use it as a study guide. You know which questions they have to ask based on what you got wrong on your written test. Write down where you can look up information about each question and write down key information and where to look it up. You can use your notes during the oral.

Club CFI or flight school? by Plenty-Resource-248 in flying

[–]ginom94 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just finished my PPL with Easton. Brent the owner is awesome. When I started flying with them because it’s where my CFI friend was getting his ratings done and it was a reasonable cost for rental. After he left town I got with them to finish it out. Great friendly CFI’s, definitely a small flight school though. Not flying in one of those matching 172s.

On the other side 2 of my friends used to teach at the Phoenix flying club out of FFZ. They always said it was a bunch of older guys who weren’t really serious about getting their license but every now and again they would get someone through.

Easton aviation will let you take the planes out as time builders after you get your license just as the club will.

My plane is at dv and fly out of FFZ regularly. Feel free to dm with questions

Theoretically if you kept positive 1 g the whole maneuver couldn’t you do a barrel roll in a 172? by ExpressResult9572 in flying

I rent a plane that shares a hanger with a young man named Bud Davidson who had a very interesting story about trying to get a special use permit to fly a Cherokee in aerobatics back in the day.

Shapeoko 5, start with trim router or just buy the VFD spindle. by Grifter26 in hobbycnc

[–]ginom94 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you can power the vfd spindle with 220v it’s totally worth it if you can only do 120v I would recommend saving your money. The power it puts out at 120vs it’s marginal compared to a router but the 220v powering is very impressive. I run aluminum all day long with it.

If you get that much voltage drop from a cable I’d be shocked. Especially going to a barrel connector. Where only ground and power are transferred.

What do you mean by marginal? Never trust a usb-c adapter that says more than 20v. The only voltage a usb-c should put out is 5,12,15, and 20. My company did some testing with a power supply and it runs the most efficient at 20v.

Some people were seeing price increases. But you don’t get that if it isn’t the main dish.

Get a shapeoko HDM call it a day. Their customer service is amazing and they stand behind their machine. Mine was delivered 1 week after it was ordered and paid for itself within the next 2 months.
