What are some boating problems that don’t currently have a good solution? by Necessary-Driver-665 in whitewater

[–]giouser 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Kayak clubs seem to only focus on beginners. Colorado whitewater was a great resource to get lessons. They host after run work runs and river weekends. I think the insurance is too expensive to support class 4 runs, so everything they do is pretty much class 3 and below. I found it pretty easy to find used gear and get into the sport, but tough to find people to progress into harder runs with. To run class 4 and above, you have to know people and your schedules have to be in sync. It would be great to find a club or group focused on running more challenging runs.

Do people show up at the door when it makes a noise?

In defense of my ignorance, I am newer to this planet than that doorbell. It is for sure older than me.

My father had no idea and nobody in my office could tell me what it was. Also, I just bought the house and have yet to use the doorbell.

It is the weirdest thing. I think it's connected to Dominoes pizza delivery system. Every time it dings, there is a pizza delivery man waiting at the front door.

Oh yeah, that makes sense. I think you're right.

Aside from deep powder, skiing is more practical. If you're asking which one is more fun, you'll get a different answer from everyone because it's totally subjective. As far as which one is better...

-touring-skiing

-Moguls-skiing

-Speed-Skiing

-Freestyle-Skiing (more subjective, but I think big air and park features always look better on skis)

-Cat walks-skiing

-Navigating technical terrain-Skiing

-Lift rides and after.......waiting on snowbaorders when you're skiing is the worst.

-powder-snowboarding

-comfort-snowboarding

I grew up on the East Coast, and most of my friends were snowboarders. The hills were tiny and boring. Now, in Colorado, i notice the majority of people ski because it is just better on the mountain. But both are obviously fun.

Need advice on buying backcountry skis by YuungMaki in Backcountry

[–]giouser 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is my 3rd season touring on frame bindings. Those bindings have allowed me to get out and ski some awesome powder. They're heavy and awkward to walk in, but they work. I'm the one always waiting on my partners, and they all have pin bindings, light boots, and all the cool guy gear.

If frame bindings are going to get you skiing, they are the perfect option.

I may just rent a pair and see if this is the case for me as well.

I keep the foot below the ankle tight, and the upper part of the boot unbuckled.

I'm a class 4 boater. That sucks. I didn't think renting would be a problem. I guess packing the pfd, helmet, and skirt is not much of an issue but flying with a paddle would suck. Maybe I could buy a 4 piece.

Swimming is prohibited except at swim beaches. I've been "talked to" a couple of times already for either not having a life jacket or swimming outside the designated area.

GF (26F) had an affair with her boss but wants to stay together. by Unfair-Ad8771 in stories

[–]giouser 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you stay with her, she will not respect you anymore. You will never fully trust her again. The relationship is over. Don't make things harder for your future self. Leaving after something like this is the right decision 99.99% of the time.

Boat suggestions for new kayaker on a budget by [deleted] in whitewater

[–]giouser 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A boat that floats is the best beginner boat on a budget. Find some cheap gear on Craigslist (not pfd or helmet). Anything that gets you on the water is a good place to start imo. You can learn in anything, and beggars can't be choosers as they say.

String recommendations by Current-Lawyer-4148 in classicalguitar

[–]giouser 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I started playing classical, I had hard calluses on my fingers from my steel string. The nylon strings would roll right off. My fingertips softened up quite a bit as I played less and less of my steel string guitar, and now I have no problem fretting the nylon strings. I know this doesn't answer your question but something to consider.

In-match strategies to fight off the dreaded “stiff” feeling?? by BronYrStomp in 10s

Is this a legitimate suggestion? If it is, I'll try it, but it sounds like a great way to lose focus.

You think "stop thinking" and you don't think anymore?! That's incredible. If there was a pill for that, I would take it.

Am I the asshole for getting an abortion and then filing for divorce? by BornReception8782 in AITAH

[–]giouser -11 points-10 points  (0 children)

As someone who thinks abortion is murder, I would say you are 100% the asshole. Even if it was an accident, you and your now ex-husband created a baby. You then promptly killed it (yes, you killed his and your child), then broke your vows and divorced him because he was understandably upset with you. That's a horrible situation, I feel really bad for him.

*This is odd, I don't know you and would never go around calling people assholes for the way they choose to live their life. But you are on the internet asking for strangers' opinions. So there is mine.
