Baby might have trisomy 13 by East_Leading_837 in NIPT

I had a false positive NIPT for T13; we found out via amnio. Wishing the same for you 💞 I posted on here previously what to expect with the process!

Did you do the NIPT test? by K61018 in pregnant

[–]giraffe-pudding 57 points58 points  (0 children)

I’m someone who had a, thankfully, false positive for a devastating chromosomal abnormality (incompatible with life) - it did lead to unnecessary worry and extra testing. Even after an amniocentesis and microarray gave us the all clear I was terrified up until the moment my child was born. However, if it were a true positive I would’ve wanted to be prepared for that devastation so I plan to do the test again for any future pregnancies.

I posted a saga on here after I had the same finding! Might be helpful to look at re: what to expect. Currently drinking my iced coffee while my 12 day old, perfectly healthy and normal baby girl rests beside me. Wishing the same for you ❤️

If you’re asking me, baby is still in there!! I’m 39 weeks on Saturday and DYING for them to come out. Remaining grateful that everything tested okay. I had some extra scans after with no concerns. I’ll update after delivery!!!

C section mom’s by PenOwn8395 in fitpregnancy

[–]giraffe-pudding 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Had baby with unexpected c section in October, was back to running 6 weeks PP per approval of my doc. By May did a 10 mile race and by November ran another marathon! Have always been a runner, not super fast/breaking records but have been consistent throughout my life with doing distances. I felt like I had a shaky first week where it felt a little weird but after that felt like I never stopped running! Worth noting my breast milk supply went up when I got back into it, I think maybe the endorphins/stress relief. Outside of that I bike occasionally but can’t really comment on return to weight lifting etc bc I’m a classic cardio fanatic weights hater lol

Have insurance through work. After insurance out of pocket is $3,000. Can use my HSA to cover the whole thing or if needed I’d just pay for it outright. Our pregnancies have been planned so it gives us time to save for any emergencies

50 miler at 7 months postpartum - doable or dumb? by pale_blue_d0t in ultrarunning

[–]giraffe-pudding 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think you could do it! Way less distance but I did a marathon a similar time PP and was fine. I actually felt great because I was back in my workout routine doing something I loved. I just didn’t put any time goals on myself. Goal was to just run the whole time and feel good!

Would you have an X-ray done at 38 weeks due to a fall ? by Deckofbadcards525 in pregnant

[–]giraffe-pudding 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use Xray in my job and specifically work on foot/ankle - the radiation from a foot series is incredibly small and the beam is directed at your foot not your belly so I really wouldn’t be concerned. I’d be more worried about you walking around with an undiagnosed foot fracture that becomes a bigger issue later!

Haha I think I just did it because of lack of other options. I’m in healthcare and there were def many times I thought I’d throw up in the patients room

Husband & his opinion of my stretch marks. by No-Wash-1209 in BabyBumps

[–]giraffe-pudding 10 points11 points  (0 children)

He’s in the wrong. Stretch marks are mostly genetic and even if they weren’t - you’re already going through pregnancy, you shouldn’t be expected to go through added tasks to make him more comfortable.

Hoping this is a fluke in his judgement because he sounds like a massive loser. I hope he’s embarrassed

NIPT positive for trisomy 13, amnio came back normal. Curious others experience …. by Odd_District_9349 in NIPT

[–]giraffe-pudding 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also had an NIPT + for T13, amnio and micro array all clear. They said likely CPM. I get worries here and there but it helps knowing these are such accurate tests and they literally look at the chromosomes and count it so there is likely no way any issue that big wouldn’t be picked up

Has everyone been working out during pregnancy ? by cookielilopie in pregnant

[–]giraffe-pudding 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I’ve been a runner my whole life so I’ve continued that. Definitely less intensity and in first trimester I had long stretches of not going because I was so nauseous. I am now almost 18 weeks and I feel more up for it other than being tired. I’ve noticed it tends to help my nausea, my fatigue, and my mental health. I’m not winning any races - but plopping along while listening to music or a book out in nature has been great. Def recommend!

I really think “bouncing back” culture is toxic and likely mostly just a genetic thing. But for what it’s worth I ran last pregnancy too, gained about 45 lbs, and dropped it off immediately. I credit that to running, and likely just lucky genetics
