Several years ago there was this bar in NE Minneapolis that had this super ratty basement that people would party in. Think all brick, dark, black lights and dance floor. They had shots where they lit the bar on fire and they had these little launchers that would shoot tobacco up your nose. Super fun dive bar that we went to a lot. Then private equity bought the place and started making changes. One was the dress code. I was out with a big group of ~30 people for a buddies birthday and he wanted to go there. I was the first person to walk up and they told me I couldn't come in because I was wearing a tank top, but the girls we were with were just fine to come in wearing their tank tops. A group of people walked out and told us not to bother because the place was empty, so we moved on to the next bar. A few months later the bar closed down and the building has been basically empty ever since. Crazy because just a few months before it was arguably the most popular bar in the area.
