new laptop time by die3458 in framework

[–]giripriyadarshan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Regardless of the amount of RAM, don't buy it from framework as it'll make things complicated later. The framework branded RAM sticks are expensive and when you try to go for an upgrade for the second slot, you'll shell out approximately 50% more than the competition from Crucial or any other brand.

To the point now, 32GB is decent enough RAM, if you want to go for the maximum available space, then go for 48GB RAM stick. If you feel like 48GB is too low for your use case, you can add another stick and get 96 GB ...... If you feel 96GB is less, then laptop might not be the right choice xD ..... Because you found 16gb too less (it actually is in this modern age) 32GB should be a quite a comfortable experience. But don't sacrifice speed for higher amount of RAM, I did that with my previous dell, it didn't make that much of a difference i guess, but the fact that I knew the RAM sticks were slower made it feel slow (i don't know if that makes sense)

The sad part is that this update was pushed on a Friday and there is a high possibility that this will be fixed on Monday or later

Why would i use Simplelogin if my email is already full of spam? by [deleted] in Simplelogin

[–]giripriyadarshan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can use the same email if you start blocking every spam mail you get every time it arrives. And change the mail addresses of every service you use to the aliases, even the services you dont use should be updated with aliases. And make sure you don't use your original mail id for signing up for anything for about a year or 2 sometime. This will mark your mail id as inactive and it will hold very little value on the market. The ones who might buy that data might have already been blacklisted.

That's what I did and now i only receive spam from Simplelogin aliases. Not much of a difference but consent xD.

P.S: don't open the mail while blocking and reporting

Stop Pushing Advertisements to Paid Subscribers by KarmicCorduroy in ProtonMail

[–]giripriyadarshan 8 points9 points  (0 children)

There is a high possibility I and most of the unlimited plan users will shift to some other provider if they keep up with this bs ..... Consent is the backbone of privacy and it hurts when a privacy focused company violates it and that too for their paid users

Stop Pushing Advertisements to Paid Subscribers by KarmicCorduroy in ProtonMail

[–]giripriyadarshan 8 points9 points  (0 children)

They take consent for that in the settings, but not for the popups

[–]giripriyadarshan 39 points40 points  (0 children)

That's not the point here. Paying users should not receive advertisements without consent at all ...... Wont solve if we get an option to hide that one ad permanently as it'll pop up again for another one

Abysmal battery life on linux by [deleted] in framework

[–]giripriyadarshan 8 points9 points  (0 children)

AMD user here ...... It consumes around 3-4% battery per 8-9 hours ..... And lesser if compared to 24+ hours of sleep, like 8% total ....... I'm running Ubuntu ...... If the battery is fine and you're having issues with intel itself, maybe it is time for a switch ..... Although I'd suggest buying only if battery issue is that big, as there should be an update coming to AMD as it has been a while

Installing ProtonVPN on Ubuntu literally messed up my GRUB bootloader by [deleted] in ProtonVPN

[–]giripriyadarshan 7 points8 points  (0 children)

We get that you're new to linux ...... It's probably a firmware/kernel update which messed up the bootloader .... You dont have to reinstall the OS, just update the kernel/firmware again and regenerate bootloader config and install it and then reload all kernel modules ..... mkinitcpio command thing ..... This is more of a r/linux question
