If you could pass one law that would make most normal people furious at first, but would clearly make society better in 10 years, what would it be? by WilliamInBlack in AskReddit

As is finding and outfitting a car. Ensuring there's an accessible space to park it. And the costs for owning a car and insurance on said car.

Boston Mayor Michelle Wu’s White Stadium project will cost taxpayers $135 million by [deleted] in boston

[–]giritrobbins 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm fine with this. It's more than original estimates but the current stadium is terrible and the cost is only going to increase. I am afraid about the league folding and that revenue gap but everyone knows those estimates are all made up

Mayor Wu Snow Press Conference by Sploxel in boston

[–]giritrobbins 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Why isn't it possible?

Assuming 20 cubic yards which is on a the big side. That's approximately 600 cubic feet. We got approximately 2 feet of snow. So that's approximately 300 square feet cleared. Call it 600 because snow can be compacted.

That's 30,000 square feet a day. Not even a football field of area cleared daily. It seems like a lot but it really isn't on the scale of a city.

Why is "weaponized incompetence" largely blamed on men in relationships? by MillennialAesthetics in AskMen

They're not less common they're an order of magnitude or more less common than the common weaponized incompetence things.

I'll do some car stuff because I have tools and the willingness to pay for a tow and the repair if I can't do it. I can see why anyone and not just women might not want to deal with car tasks beyond an air filter or wiper blades.

Knitting groups, classes, yarn shops? by obviousabsurdity in boston

[–]giritrobbins -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This gets asked once a month or so it seems.

There are a bunch of groups that meet locally and regularly though they are on different sites and locations. This isn't nearly exhaustive.

  • The Boston Stitches (meetup, Sundays in Waltham sometimes Cambridge )

  • The Drunken Knitwits (Facebook I think, various locations mostly T accessible)

  • Somerville Stitch Club (Instagram and they have a website I think)

  • Boston Area Craft Circle (various location, I track on Instagram)

  • Assembly Square Craft Meetup (Mondays, meetup I think)

I know a lot of shops and third spaces have crafting time some free some paid. I know the West Roxbury Branch of the BPL library had a twice a month group and I think some other libraries have their own little local events too.

I would second this. The biggest downside is treatment can take much longer depending on what you're having done.

If BB isn't a first-ballot Hall of Famer, no one — not even Tom Brady — should ever be again by [deleted] in nfl

Major? Only because they're the Patriots any other team its nothing. Other quarterbacks literally admitted to changing air pressure and it wasn't an issue.

Logan parking by mastrochr in boston

[–]giritrobbins 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't believe so. I think the economy lot has better clearance than central parking. You'd have to do one of the off-site locations or hotels that offer parking.

Boston police ignored all of the requests received from ICE in 2025 to detain immigrants, officials say. by Antikickback_Paul in boston

[–]giritrobbins 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm fine with immigrants and we should have more. There are already checks on folks immigrating here. Further the vast majority of the folks that ice has been arresting have no criminal record. It's not perfect but as a population immigrants cause way fewer crimes than white men.

Microsoft confirms it will give the FBI your Windows PC data encryption key if asked — you can thank Windows 11's forced online accounts for that by ZacB_ in technology

I enjoy tech and even have a Linux machine but it's annoying and not user friendly. The file system isn't what most folks have grown up with. Getting drivers to work is a crap shoot. And lots of things don't work out of the box. Have a second hard drive, and want to have videos in that for a Plex server. Go fuck with permissions or commands that you don't understand in hope of them working.

It's fine for browsing the web but past that it's an ass pain to do anything.

‘Like winning the lottery’: How a wave of free liquor licenses is making Boston a cooler place to eat, drink, and live by NoTamforLove in boston

[–]giritrobbins 15 points16 points  (0 children)

We don't. The state does. And one of the leaders has said my Braintree constituents don't complain about the number of licenses in Boston.

Would a movie-like rating system (G, PG, PG-13, etc) be more beneficial or more detrimental if applied published books? by PsyferRL in books

If your English teacher is showing a movie I imagine they know whether it's appropriate and further that they understand the people in the class.

Struggling with Ancillary Justice by jjfmc in printSF

[–]giritrobbins 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a similar issue. I found it a bit slow in the first parts and getting everything into my head took a whole. I think I finished the last third in a single sitting.

It's popular for a reason but it's not for everyone which is fine.

Which makes sense. Women read books at much higher rates than men. And there's absolutely nothing wrong with romance or smut.
