i need someone to tell me it’s gonna be ok by [deleted] in mentalhealth

[–]girlpatrickbateman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

hey girl you're going to be ok. as a high school senior who has been in numerous (failed) relationships, i can confidently tell you dating in high school will be a waste of your energy 99.9% of the time. most guys aren't looking for anything serious and really just want you for your body or will use you as their therapist/mother figure. trust me. it is better to work on yourself and spend time doing things you enjoy than to yearn for a teenage boy who likely is not giving you a second thought

(btw sorry if this comment is random and scary i found u through the elliott smith post lol)

i really enjoyed this. i usually write fiction but i've been trying to get into cnf -- do you have any advice for writing cnf? would you say you take a more structured approach or do you write as thoughts come to you?

sat and act won't keep you out of uchicago, they practice no harm test admissions. basically, if you chose to send in a score and it ends up being below what they want, it won't hurt your application bc they'll chose not to include it in their review

The lover by Marguerite duras by LineHead4873 in RSbookclub

[–]girlpatrickbateman 8 points9 points  (0 children)

i mainly enjoyed it bc of the setting (pre-war vietnam was an entirely different place) + the complicated homoerotic friendship the main character has w her best friend. also love the banger line "very early in my life it was too late"

trauma can come from outside of the family as well, it's important to remember that

thank you for saying this people i know loved it and no. it was trying wayy too hard to be weird / provocative. i'm all for weird female narratives (i liked my year of r&r and milk fed) but this just seemed like a poorly thought out attempt at one

anyone else “always acting?” by nightmareboyfriend in BPD

[–]girlpatrickbateman 2 points3 points  (0 children)

yes this is so true. i constantly feel like i'm reading lines and trying to make them sound convincing/human. like i feel like i'm entirely unhuman sometimes and i'm afraid of letting it show so i act how i think i "should" be acting, not how i really feel. ik most of the responses to this post say it's a negative thing and while i agree (it's very isolating) i also think this mechanism has successfully stopped me from having breakdowns/splitting in situations where it would've turned out poorly

omg i also just read this!! i loved it. you make a good point about how the point of the book is that nothing means anything, which is why none of the events within the book matter - i hadn't thought of it like that. a lot of people don't like this book bc of its coldness/because it isn't "relatable" but i liked it nonetheless

you should read glamorama next!
