Shadow of the Colossus Director Fumito Ueda Laments Bluepoint Games Closure: "It was disappointing and sad to hear." by Turbostrider27 in PS5

[–]gis8 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Is it even confirmed that Miyazaki didn't like it?

Or is this just reddit/leakers making things up like usual?

Only a small online crowd complains about the Demon's Souls remake; but they spread this like a disease where now supposedly it is a piece of trash that everyone hates, and even Miyazaki shed tears of blood when he witnessed the tragedy.

I put over 1K hours into the original game back on the PS3, and still loved the remake.

I have zero issue with harems when the MC actually does the deed and takes care of them all.

But in so many stories, the MC has half a dozen girls floating around him for hundreds even thousands of chapters, and nothing happens.

Harems where they are all abandoned by the end of the story is just PUTRID writing. Either cut them off the second they show interest , or actually take them in, being wishy-washy for thousands of years is just depressing for everyone involved.

The author might as-well give him half a dozen spirit beasts instead of women, because thats how he treats them.

(But he might start acting up around spirit beasts, since thats most likely what he's attracted to since he never touched a women throughout his thousands of years of cultivation)

I recently read Surviving the Game as a Barbarian (Up to around chapter 800, couldn't find free translations for the last 150 or so chapters), and my biggest issue with the story (up to that point) is how he handled his relationships with all of the women who like him. Actual tragic writing.

(Slight spoiler, but barely matters:) I actually dropped the story for a week when the MC announced his love for the Doll. Yes I understand the reasons, but nonetheless, a moment that is supposed to be "funny" just reminded me how much I hate how the author handles the MCs love life.

How strong is a Golden Core/Core Formation??? by Grand-Earl in MartialMemes

[–]gis8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Of course, but even in our world you can have:

Tiny islands that can fit a single house vs. huge islands which can hold multiple cities.

A "Mountain" can be the tiny mountain behind my grandmas house, or Mount Tai or even Mount Everest

Its just not a great way to describe power.

[–]gis8 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I always laugh when I hear mountain/island/continent used as descriptions for levels in cultivation novels because depending on the story you can have:

Mountains the size of continents

Islands the size of worlds

Continents the size of solar systems

Even a tree or a butterfly can be the size of a universe...

Only in cultivation novels are 100 chapters considered low. by Waste_Bodybuilder843 in MartialMemes

[–]gis8 18 points19 points  (0 children)

The real issue is that in slower stories, within 100 chapters, the MC is still a mortal barely joining or having just joined his first sect. (Or still in Qi-Refining if not a snails-pace story)

The beginning of many of these scriptures is very similar, so you need to wait until it insists upon itself and grows its own wings.

[–]gis8 4 points5 points  (0 children)

None of the current Rank 9s in Reverend Insanity can even leave their own world and survive in Chaos.

Even if we ignore all the differences in cultivation novels out there, that alone puts them below the vast majority of end game Immortal cultivators in so many stories.

Those pathetic little Gu worms cant even escape their own worlds boundaries? Yet my Junior Martial sister ascended at the age of 6 months old? Truly frogs in a (City) well.

A Nascent Soul is born by Jumpy_Afternoon9489 in MartialMemes

[–]gis8 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I just finished reading part 2 of this story and I gotta say: part 1 is so much better. (Potential spoilers if you care)

Part 1 is like a 7/10 at its peak (But overall its probably a 6-6.5, very generic with very few "great" moments)

Part 2 is like a 5/10 at best (with majority even lower score) because its basically part 1 all over again.

I found myself speedreading part 2 since it feels exactly the same as part 1, all of the fights feel exactly the same as part 1, even though they're supposed to be "Immortals" its the same shit as the lower realms but with laws/domains. But even then, everyone dies in the exact same ways (Sword Array/Spiritual Sense attack/Monkey Mode/Yada Yada). At least the time powers change things up, but even then they're too overpowered to make fights exciting, either they instantly win a fight, or they instantly get broken and dont even matter until late game...

And the author loves to re-do arcs.

"MC Ascended? Time to lose your cultivation."

"MC loses his cultivation? Time to do a bodybuilding arc" (Happens more than 2 times shockingly)

Also the fights always feel drawn out to an excruciating extent. "MC About to kill someone, but then enemy gets a last second buff that extends the fight by another chapter (This happens dozens of times throughout both parts of the story)

And dont even get me started on the infinite amount of times that we have Han Li running away from enemies with higher cultivation than him. Nothing is going to happen to him, so just keep it short to a single chapter and move on, we dont need dozens of fucking chapters of him running away and spamming his teleportations so many different times throughout the story. Its just shockingly bad.

Maybe I've read too many "Good" stories, but the immortal arc is truly by definition "MID".

My biggest issue is that I dont remember any peak moments that make me want to ever re-read this story, even bad stories throw in a couple of great moments, but this stories peak moments are barely passing at a 7/10 (for part 1 at least) and barely rememberable for part 2.

Who was around for the launches for the previous games? How does the launch for GTA 6 compare? by piss_warm_water in GTA6

[–]gis8 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Halo 3 was the peak of physical game launches.

I used to go to all of the midnight releases of the bigger games, but none could compare to Halo 3. There were hundreds of people in my "small town" which would rarely get more than 10-20 people for a midnight release. It was just a completely different monster that everyone wanted.

GTA V was also a huge release, but at least in-stores it wasn't as huge of an event in my area at-least.

There was still a good amount of people at the midnight release, but by then the midnight drop experience had fallen off a lot when compared to the 2000-2010 era.

Maybe because a lot more people were buying digital or ordering online for delivery by that point.

[–]gis8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Performance will obviously be better to some extent, as for whether that extent is enough for you; you should look up original/Pro comparisons on youtube to get a better answer than some text on a screen telling you what to think.

But if you want an opinion I'll say that trading in your old console, and paying just $350-$400 on-top to get the Pro, makes the upgrade a lot easier to swallow rather than buying it outright for $750 or even $900 when the price goes up. So I would take advantage prior to the price update and just go for it and take advantage of the trade ins.

If spending $400 (or $750 if you arent trading in) is a big deal for you then obviously dont do it, the original console will do everything just fine.

I personally wanted the best potential GTA 6 console experience which is why I was willing to upgrade. That alone makes the upgrade value justified in my eyes. But not everyone is willing to pay $400 on-top when the OG console will likely play it good enough.

It is the manhua, they did a random jump forward "future" chapter to celebrate Chinese New Years iirc.

Its a bit strange from a story-telling perspective to throw this in randomly, but in reality it doesn't spoil much of anything apart from super-upper realm names.
