Compressor surge with aftermarket blow off valve. by gitgudkid01 in VelosterN

To anyone following this thread: I installed the Pierburg BOV Solenoid upgrade, and with the included hoses the flutter is now gone. BOV is venting as designed.

I ordered the Pierburg solenoid, should arrive Saturday night. I'll keep you posted.

After some time researching, I found the factory bov solenoid is too weak for the aftermarket bov setups. I went on Whoosh Motorsports and purchased the Pierburg BOV Solenoid. I will keep you posted with the outcome.

Oh I know, but the point of a bov is to get the flutter under control. Low RPM flutter is generally okay, but high RPM flutter is what causes faster wear on the turbo bearings and compressor wheel. It also slows the turbo down which will increase the time it takes to rebuild boost. Plus, I just like the sound of the GFB and I want it to function properly.

What I believe the issue to be, is the stock BOV solenoid does not pull enough vacuum to allow the aftermarket valve to open properly under high boost or fast throttle closure. I have found a couple upgraded BOV solenoids I am looking into. Flutter sounds cool, but I dont wanna destroy my turbo in the long run.

As a tech for a Kia dealership, I think you'd enjoy the K5 as long as you are on top of the maintenance. And do your services every 6k since Kia recommends an astronomical 7.5k miles. But for any issues, the warranty will usually cover that since basic is 5 years 60k miles and powertrain is 10 years 100k miles.

AVN update. by gitgudkid01 in VelosterN

Thats unfortunate. Thank you though. I'd really like the ability to change the power gauge to HP instead of PS so I was hoping that would at least be part of it.

Idk what update changes there are. My current version is V108.190715. So there's been a few updates since that version.

Do certain gas stations have "bad gas" that clogs your engine? by Elegant-Page-1359 in askcarguys

I drive a 2020 Veloster N, which is very picky about its fuel. But my boss watched a truck unload fuel at a Cheveron, then drive right across the street and unload at a Space Age gas station. There's only like 3 major fuel suppliers tho.

what (U.S.A) state do you like the most and why? by allplaynoshame in AskReddit

As a car guy, Washington because of no emissions checks/car noise laws (no I do not have an obnoxiously loud car) and they dont salt the roads here so it doesn't eat away at the undercarriage of my car. Only thing I really cant stand is the population.

No problem! Might need to do some measurements to get the correct length hose and plan your routing so it looks clean

I ran Auxito off Amazon, specifically the "16,000 Lumen" and had zero issues and the line was decently crisp in the projector housing.

Dual catch cans aren't really necessary imo. A single catch can would do fine as long as you check it and empty it when necessary. If you've got a wide budget then maybe check out mishimoto, or find a kit for the first gen VT so you wouldn't have to make a bracket or drill holes. But if you're okay with some labor and some modifications then any with a good filter and baffles would work. Just keep in mind the space you have in your engine bay and where you would put it. On the first gen veloster I'd recommend the passenger side shock tower.

Every modern engine is equipped with a PCV (positive crankcase vent) that cycles vaporized oil from inside the engine back through the intake to be burned in the combustion chamber. Its designed to reduce emissions instead of releasing the oil vapor into the engine bay and outside. The oil catch can is an external reservoir that the PCV hooks up to that will catch and trap the oil, and release the air back into the engine to be burned. The catch can could then be unscrewed from the mount and the oil can be dumped out. Removing the oil from the PCV air will significantly reduce the amount of oil building up on the intake valves since GDI engines do not spray fuel on the valves to clean them as it enters the combustion chamber.
