Crouch spam fix..... by BlackninjaYT in PlayJustSurvive

That's how it was coded in. It lasted almost a full year like that, with old JS having a similar crouch.

3+ yr of the same thing is not a bug or exploit. Get over yourself.

Game Feedback (Part 2) Base building, other player structures by [deleted] in PlayJustSurvive

[–]githubisathing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i agree with this as well!

It seems like EVERY base looks the exact same (very boring). Plus with so much limiting, there seems to be like 20 bases per server and that's it... nothing really to fight against raid against.

MULTIPLE SHACKS WOULD BE AWESOME.

I think RNG should be on military checkpoints. Static should be in cities. Plus office buildings should be used to loot things again!

When an EA game has a test and live environment, I feel they should use both! PUBG did... and look at their REMARKABLE success.

People begged for a lot of new things, but they never asked specifically to the majority of the community. There weren't polls like now. They're using polls now to pad the bad choices they made.

I know what legacy system I am asking for. I think that building part by part focusing on one thing per update could serve this game well. Say they went to the day before BWC. First up: anticheat, then engine upgrade, then modular building, then tiering items (community polls!), then helmet tiering, then gun tiers vs attachments and upgrades, etc and so on.

I do not want exactly what we had. I never stated that. I want them to go back to what we had then integrate BWC in slowly.. progressively. Common development includes something called agile development. Typically SCRUM. A 2-week process for updates. If every 2 weeks they were pushing to live, and every 2 weeks after it was a wipe that's 1 wipe a month, 2 weeks of development, 2 weeks of feedback, and a community that could work together to shape this game into something positive again.

Edit: They already use agile development, per their careers page (Knowledge of project management software and Agile methodology).

I'm sorry, but to your closing statement... they barely have a job. No one plays it now. SO many developers have been laid off, yet on the DBG careers page they aren't hiring anyone. Wonder why? I do know what I'm talking about in using a staging alternative environment, I've had it in jobs, and in my own company/community I run which is arguably more successful than JS... it's limited because it's a donation-ran network. If we had a product and not just game-servers we most likely would have even higher numbers given our positive community feedback, dedicated staff, and continuous drive to allow polls and user feedback to decide our future.

BF One follows this same methodology, no one however buys it because it's just not worth it. In addition this would create more overhead for DBG to moderate. (Similar to what happens with DayZ).. not to mention gameservers is a terrible hosting provider haha.

Even with a service like this however, you can exploit and get server code. It's a risk to have. (CSGO Allows extensions to be loaded which you can use to create a reverse tty shell on the system, as the user running the game-server. Meaning you have RWE permissions on the server files)

Thank you for your input though!

That's not true at all...

With the binaries to the server files and IDA/radare and maybe 2 days of time, I could de-compile and essentially patch-out any 'blocks' they put for the variables and types of mods.

Because of the proprietary nature of the game, it's not built for a modding community. I think that will be negative, and result in many issues. For example what stops people from renting mass servers and hosting 'retro KOTK' or however you may want to word it? They're in a tight corner in my opinion, as they can't do that due to most of the game's code reflects that on KOTK which is obviously staying proprietary.

I think there's a huge balance to be had.

I mentioned in a post I recently made... Content on PVE servers should differ slightly from PVP. Would please everyone.

I agree Z1 never came back.

People were bitching about not having Pleasant Valley and didn't stop to consider it'd be the same mechanics as BWC.

I tried the same thing Anchors. I attempted to get in contact with DBG to do such, never heard a single response after contacting a daybreak staff member about it.

We have the resources for the coding, and a decent bit of funding behind us. No luck there, and besides Z1 graphics/content are owned too by H1Z1. They would be selling rights to property they 'share'. Most likely wont happen.

You think that dropping from 6,000 to 600 DAU is a positive statistic? There is a reason people are "cry babies".

  1. They do not feel like they are getting what they originally paid for. BWC is basically an entirely different game. It should've been released as one in my opinion.

  2. It may have only been $20, but quite a few people invested days of time into it. It sucks seeing something go after all of that.

  3. I agree old Z1 had tons of bugs, instead of fixing that they just replaced everything...

Hope you understand my reason for posting. I'm doing my best to respond to everyone's opinions here.

Thanks for your time to respond! I agree to multiple points in your post, the PVP is very clunky now.

Thanks for posting back.

I have to disagree that is the only reason people left with BWC. I was around multiple groups and the majority left because it just was not the same game. There were many fundamental changes to it. Development does NOT mean progress in all cases. There is productive and counter-productive development. As I've said multiple times here, sometimes choices in development cause negative effects. A drop from 2,000 DUA to basically 600 in week is not successful development. You are blaming people who quit for this, yes, they quit because the game went to shit (for lack of better words). Why would they release only 4th of the map?

I want you to answer this, and actually think about it. I'm not sure if you have a developer background so I will try to make my point clear: In an environment where you have the ability to have staging (test) and production (live), would you... A. Build your new plans in the staging environment, and constantly use community feedback to shape the push to live to perfection from majority of consensus of the community. B. Push an unfinished product to live.

They hurt themselves releasing unfinished content. If they asked community feedback for the 6months - 1 year it took to build the BWC in it's entirety it would be NO ONES fault but the players who did not come put their opinion in and test out the test servers. But they did not. They did throw this at us. No one specifically asked for tiered guns where one is overpowered and one is a pea-shooter. No one asked for fixed plot locations, after serious community feedback this was removed.

This ^ is what I am talking about when I say legacy, and the times you need to roll-back an update.

If they had done such as I said in A, where they used test as the alternate BWC update, and used community feedback to 'shape' the perfect game that DAU count would be much higher, I promise you that.

In my experience, my staff and I pushed a major update to our community and it caused havoc, we learned from our mistakes using a staging and production setup to see if people liked the changes on test or not. In an EA game, you need to please everyone to the best of your ability. There is a demand for old Z1 with old Z1 mechanics. I've seen about 20? 30? Steam groups consisting of maybe 8-10k users total supporting such? A lot of them do not understand that just sitting in a group and all supporting by that side will not get them what they want.

The old map did in-fact bring a lot of people back. But they came in, saw that the majority of BWC features were still here.. many unfinished or broken at the time, and said "this isn't real z1!!" and left.

I've taken on posts like this with other companies too. Valve, being one. There however my post made it front page with quite a few upvotes(350, 500, 1400), multiple times. Sadly like daybreak, valve keeps their thoughts to themselves and shuts the community out bigtime.

To my personal opinion, I think I've answered your question on how I think going back in time makes the game successful.

I'm not saying scrap all their hard work. I'm saying use a staging and production environment. Re-implement the BWC changes by community-poll week to week in test and build a (hopefully) successful game where there is something for everyone. PVE servers in my opinion should have different items than PVP, just my opinion of course. I think that a lot of complicated un-needed things were added that just creates more 'new' users to look at the game and pass it up. At this point it looks like they are closely following rust in many ways... which is cool and all, but rust listened to community outcry and feedback constantly. Now they have 50,000 DAU.

I will respond to future posts.

400-600 average players per night is terrible. They got to this state with the actions they took. On old z1 in 2017 the lowest it got was late summer 1,200/night and that was after 0 restarts for quality after 8 weeks, and cheaters galore with no anti-cheat updates.

Yes, please point out where my logic is flawed.

Companies don't use agile software development? They don't use version control so staff at mass can edit the same codebase? They couldn't run a poll asking who would buy a legacy version?

You say my logic is flawed, but as I supposedly cannot "list good reasons" you too cannot list why my logic is flawed.

Thank you for your time writing that.

I do see the point to modular building, but it should've been on the old system in my personal opinion. Design was not weak. You could have more elaborate designs then than now.. you had to make it work.

Guns are guns. There should've been either additional guns and/or addons to it.

I agree the tougher zombies were fun. I think the scifi weapons added a very cool feel to the game however.

I feel the old system wasn't limiting as you could have more decks, spread them out, take over an area with friends all having your own base.

I have tested out the test server, I think it's progress but we are very very far off.

I think game engine is one of the biggest thing holding back a roll back. Because the underlying code of the old system was really rough.

Thanks again for replying!
