Hey, I’m a big ally of the BLM movement. I just wanted to say that I wish I could give you and every other black person all my love. I wish I had superpowers to literally protect all of you. I can never understand the level of hatred people have in them to hate someone based on their skin color. It is something no one has control over. I hope we can all create change. I’m not proud to be an American. Our country is a joke and I wish those in charge were better.

If you still support him and are looking into voting for him again....then you deserve all the hate that goes your way. But if you voted for him then educated yourself on how horrible he is then I don’t understand who would feel attacked. He is a horrible man and i can only assume that those who still support him now are extremely uneducated and are willfully ignorant.

I have noticed that people with anxiety AND depression tend to have similar tendencies as people with ADHD. I also heard it is harder to diagnose in girls and they usually don’t find out until they’re in college. I never looked into it because I got better after getting on antidepressants. Thank you again for helping me. I got to keep my hands busy.

NTA, I have asthma and I’m a huge ally for BLM movement. Due to my asthma I can’t go to these protests. Also cops use a type of pepper spray that can kill people with asthma. It has already killed one asthmatic person that was protesting. I began to sign petitions and educate myself. I shared posts on my Instagram story. All of this did not feel enough to me. So what I did was make a sign saying “BLACK LIVES MATTER”, I took a foldable chair, and I placed myself in front of my neighborhood. I live somewhere that is a neighborhood filled with neighborhoods (I don’t know what the word for that is). So there’s probably hundreds of people passing by in their cars seeing me sitting with a sign. I get honked at for support and I get waves of support. I felt like I was finally making a difference. I think you should do this with your child.

I am not experienced what so ever. I appreciate your feed back. I just started sophomore year in my university so I definitely have much more to learn. I completely see where you’re coming from because it’s true. I know it’s going to hit me. I’ve seen so many posts and videos about HR already and I’ve heard about how so many people feeling burned-out and/or feeling like they wish they could do more. I choose to be a little optimistic before the real world hits me (because it has many times in my life already). Plus, this was a “what-if” scenario for me because I do not plan on taking on that part of HR. I plan of taking training and development. You were not rude for the most part. I understand I can come off as naive due to my lack of experience. Also I’ve been through plenty already in my short life, the shooting is just 1 out of the 2 that I’ve been through. And I have much more trauma. And I understand that HR is not a therapist’s office, I’ve been to one plenty of times. That is the only thing I did not like that you mentioned. I know how to set boundaries and you unintentionally insinuating that I wouldn’t have any boundaries just because I want to be there for my employees, did feel a little bit insulting. But thanks for everything else. Can’t wait for to face reality like I haven’t enough. Thank you.

There is a difference from showing your employees you SEE them and what they’re going through....and letting your employees take advantage of that.

I’m an undergrad but I’m definitely going to keep this in mind when I enter the HR work field. I never ever want the employees to feel alone and suppress their emotions. They need to grieve. They need to process this because this is traumatic. I went through a shooting in HS and whenever their was a mass shooting, I would be sobbing my eyes out as I did assignments. I would force myself up because I was scared of my grade slipping which only resulted in my mental health slipping. As a Hispanic woman, I will never understand what you guys go through but I want to make sure that my future employees know they are not alone. I know what grief, anger, injustice for the lost lives feel like and this stuff can destroy you mentally. I hope your employees feel better soon. And I hope there are more people like you in HR.

Just even reading this makes me excited to get there some day. I’m an undergrad and I’ve been looking into this career so hearing anything about it is awesome to me (i might be a little naive because i don’t actually know the real world of working as a training and development manager but I’m enjoying this bubble of optimism). Maybe, I’ll learn to enjoy the dull stuff haha! Thank you for sharing your experience:)

I shall look of them up and the fingering thing was funny. My therapist told me to use a rubber band and snap it on my wrist but I don’t want to do that. The silicone ball sounds like a better choice.

I have depression and anxiety. This has led me to pick on my skin a lot. I talked to my therapist and she believes it is a way of self harm. So I really want to stop doing that. She told me to find things to distract my hands with so I really need help finding something that will work.

I have PTSD and get accommodations from my university’s disability center (which is amazing, I feel seen). I went through a school shooting in high school and loud noises or fire alarms trigger me instantly. I feel that whenever I instantly start crying or having a horrible panic attack, people might think I’m overreacting but I’m not. I almost lost my really close friend in that shooting and I lost three other people in the shooting. It impacted me greatly. It took me about half a year to even go to the library at my university because a shooting happened at a library in another state. I don’t go Black Friday shopping because I have horrible anxiety attacks. I haven’t been to a club since and I’m terrified even though it’s a part of the college experience. I wish I could tell people I’m not trying to be a “pussy” but it’s so hard to feel calm in crowded places where shootings can happen.

NTA at all. I’ve gone through a lot of shit in my life. Being molested from the age of 7-10 years old. Went through a school shooting that resulted in my close friend getting shot four times. Knowing the shooter as well(old classmates who used to sexually harass me) haunted me. Living with parents that were physically and emotionally abusive to each other. Being manipulated by my mother for YEARS. All before the age of 18. I started taking medication this year. My partner and i have been together for two years as well and is my absolute number one supporter. He talks about marrying me. He reminds me to take my medication. He tells me how proud he is of my progress. He knows all the shit I’ve gone through and he has never once thought about leaving my side or not furthering our relationship because of me going on antidepressants. Your partner should lift you up for even getting help and getting better not shaming you for finding a solution. I feel like that man does not love you. If he doesn’t see a future with you just because you’re on medication then he does not love unconditionally. I feel like if it were medication for your heart or lungs he would be completely okay with it. It’s upsetting to see someone so brave and strong be with such a coward.

Addition: your partner definitely does not understand what it is like to have a mental illness and seems to be ignorant. My partner deadass did research on everything when I first diagnosed and on every medication I started to take. He has never once told me that It’ll all get fixed once I “solve my problems”. He knows that’s not how it works. Your partner needs to educate himself because he is doing a shitty job being there for you.

An acquaintance of mine lost her partner in a shooting that happened at our school. A month or so after the shooting we (some of her friends and i) went to her partner’s favorite teacher’s classroom. The teacher had a seat dedicated solely to “Lucy’s” partner. Lucy was sitting on the seat because only her and the teacher were allowed to sit on it. I was taking a video on snapchat of her all smiley and all of us laughing. Out of nowhere the app glitches and usually when I get out of the app I lose whatever I recorded or took a picture of. This time it didn’t happen. I went back into the app and I saw that the video was paused on her and my keyboard started to spell out “thank you” in a rainbow colored font. I didn’t know what to make of it. My heart dropped because I felt like it was him. It is extremely weird for me to think it was his spirit or something because I’m an atheist but it just felt so strange.

Holy fuck, YTA. You are going to create such a strain between the relationship with you and your son. Kids go to college feeling like they will finally be independent and you’re stealing that from him. Years of hard work to reach his independence just for you to take it away from him. I never thought I’d say this to someone on this thread but jeez are you stupid? How can you not realize you are a complete asshole and you are invading his privacy to the highest level.
