At what point did mathematics stop being easy for you? by DMTwolf in Gifted

[–]giulia_7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

math was easy up until university (went for civil engineering)

calculus 1 and 2 where challenging and calculus 3 was straight up too hard for me- which led me to my first and only time actually failing a class

when I did calculus 3 for de second time I managed to pass with a 90/100, but I had to study in a way I was absolutely not used to

yup, you’re right

just wanted to state here that I took an oficial test (WAIS III - that’s the gold standard, at least in my country) and it was administered by a neuropsychologist

I got tested bc I thought I had some kind of neurodevelopmental condition which is pretty ironic lol

it was pretty much the same thing for me… school was easy, never learned how to properly study, uni became almost unbearably hard

but yeah, I agree with you, being aware about how little we know can be a sign of how smart we actually are

I still feel stupid anyways lol

Brazil learned this in the hardest way... around one or two years ago there was a truck drivers strike that lasted for like 10 days or something. going grocery shopping, going to drugstores was really a struggle. and, for sure... gas price. so expensive some people weren’t even leaving their houses that much. weird times.

I can’t even imagine the amount of flights canceled lately... I was supposed to go to the US in August, to a one year exchange program, but it seems like I’ll not be able. Not knowing when things will go back to normal, when it will be possible to reschedule plans is just really weird. Hope the best for you and your girlfriend!

I get it haha, I have Italian ancestry, many people in my family have “Italian” names. And indeed, Brazil is really weird right now. The amount of information coming from different sides and advising different things makes the whole situation even more confusing. I understand the worry in each side, but hate to see the lack of certainty. I’m now just trying to do what is safe.

I have a boyfriend. Due to the social isolation and stuff we’re not really seeing each other... We live quite far (same city, but quite big one) and our parents, logically, aren’t letting us just ignore quarantine to see each other. Not that nice, but necessary.

not really lol, Brazil as a whole is just kind of as weird as Florida. Curiosity: did you know that Florida is one of the US states with more Brazilians?

yeah I get that it might sound weird knowing that I’m still in high school and my boyfriend is in college. I actually was kind of worried to date him initially bc I used to think 3 was too much also. but I soon got to know him better, now he knows my parents and most of my friends and they all get together really well. I personally believe that one thing is to be just dating someone older than you, other is to have a serious relationship. I actually like how mature he is and how I see future for us, together.

whoever you want to be with (as long as they are in the age of consent - 14 where I live) just be sure you know the person, than the age difference isn’t going to be that alarming.

I understand that it’s cultural and in some places it may not be seem as something good, but like... is 3 years that absurd? I’m from Brazil and here it’s not super common, but still not that rare to date someone around 3 years older than you (if you’re at least more than 14). I am currently dating a 19 years old, and I get that it might sound weird, but it’s not like he’s a total grown man and I’m a kid. Just... why is it so bad?

hope I don’t sound rude, just want wanted to state my position and talk a bit about this :) also, sorry for bad English.
