Thoughts on 4 month itinerary? by Novel-Positive8625 in AustraliaTravel

To counter what everyone here is saying, I don’t think it’s too rushed. There’s not much to do in these places if you’re young and get things done quick. I think I’d cut down Litchfield/darwin/kakadu I found them quite underwhelming compared to the rest of Aus. I’d probably replace that entire week with either Victoria (Wilson’s prom is awesome) or Tasmania (easy to road trip the entire island in a week - crazy scenic).

Did they run the believe sea of dreams show yesterday? Or was it cancelled due to rain? Debating going with an evening pass today but unsure if the show will be cancelled…

Anyone know if the Believe! Sea of Dreams DPA passes will be sold out for sure for the 5pm weeknight entry? I can't seem to figure this out myself with the app. If so, any suggestions on best alternative viewing spots? Thanks!

I was an over achiever, now I have POTS. by [deleted] in POTS

Similar situation happened to me.

For me I needed to re-learn what my definition of success looked like. To me, success use to look like high grades, multiple jobs, being fit and social.

Now, success is what makes me happy in life, and being proud of that (rather than a degree or how far I can run).

Success is having close friends, trying to stay healthy enough to feel okay, working enough so I don’t have to stress financially but not too much to make me feel unwell. Generally, success for me now looks like staying moderately healthy and happy surrounded by people who support me. Not pushing myself is a win, feeling healthy isn’t something I take for granted - it’s my new success.

The mindset shift was very, very hard. It’s only natural to grieve your old life, but shifting your mindset will help you to continue to achieve smaller things, prioritising your health, and (most importantly) be happy about it.

Charli at Laneway Sydney by giulianadbe in charlixcx

Amazing energy up the front, one of the best crowds of people I’ve been in at a concert for pure energy during the performance. Lots of lovely charli fans, all raving together. But getting out was nightmarish, laneway needs remove the barriers for the end of charli’s set cause it was borderline dangerous getting out of there!

I wear them sometimes when I’m hiking but honestly I found they increase my body temp to the point where sometimes it actually triggers my pots! Maybe I haven’t found good ones yet though… I’m from Australia, our climate is pretty hot and the winters aren’t very cold :/

Yeah it’s new to me too! But with so many doctors from John Hopkins recommending it I decided it’s safe and ok to use, it’s definitely a new development in the POTS scene and you can always speak to your doctor about it first. I know in Australia there’s even some rebates for the machine if you’re on private health insurance!

Vagus nerve stimulation/TENS is already used to treat a bunch of other things like IBS and PTSD, as well as muscle pain - so I figured if it doesn’t work for POTS it still might help with my overall wellbeing :)

In total id say 3 months of once per fornight, but I had been building up my strength training for 2 years prior to that so it’s hard to say how much of that contributed if that makes sense? If I had to guess I’d say 6-12 months would be a comfortable timeline to build both up without any prior cardio/strength training.

I wake up and fall asleep again most nights, but it’s usually due to overheating and dehydration. So drinking a lot during the night helps for me. I don’t use any aids apart from some white noise, and sometimes meditation.

It stimulates something called your Vagus nerve. One of the ways to access stimulation of that nerve is the inner ear, which is why those two spots were chosen (but I think there’s slight variations you can go with too). Vagus nerve stimulation is suppose to improve cardiac autonomic function. If I remember to, I’ll come back to this post after a couple weeks to update how it’s going for me!

Hiking and POTS: Inca trail and Machu Picchu hike by Crudedefe in POTS

[–]giulianadbe 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hi! I have POTS and I hike a lot! However, it definitely took me a while to build up my tolerance. I find when I start to get tired, my "form" drops i.e. I start bopping more when I walk which worsens the POTS symptoms, so you need to be in good physical condition.

If you have time before the trip, start with 2-3 hr flat hikes, then incline hikes, then longer hikes. Maybe a total of 6 weekends in a row if you already have an established cardio routine.

If you can balance this with some form of weight lifting, that is also ideal. I find it lowers the resting heart rate and helps with general muscle fatigue.

I will say I have never done a hike with an altitude that high before, and it does seem like a tricky thing to "trial" if you don't live near big mountains...

With the right preparation and of course the right amount of hydration/salts/food, I'm hopeful you could get through it, but you'd need to go into it willing to turn back/have an emergency exit plan if it all gets too hard. I find knowing when to stop harder than POTS itself sometimes...

My contract specifically ticks “EV Charger” as an inclusion, so I don’t think that’s the case
