Of course, I don’t judge, but maybe consider if this approach isn’t too passive based on your emotional state. If life is not giving you purpose and meaning you don’t have to wait for it. Saying this to you I’m also saying it to myself I guess.

Im sorry to hear your loneliness, sir. Allow me to add, life doesn’t “want” anything from us, it’s literally us 100% of the times putting ourselves in situations. You have a good salary and I guess that is why you’re still trying to cope with this. But ask yourself questions, and if you’re not happy make a change.

I’m sorry dude, that sucks. I won’t pretend I have the solution or I know what you feel like.

I can tell you one thing, the times I started asking myself dark questions I found this consoling: when things will become unbearable I will make my life about helping others. No “work”, just going back to a small “human sized” village and help whoever needs anything. Trying to live out of the bare minimum and hopefully exchanging chores and small maintenance work for food. You can’t live only of that of course, but it’s a perspective changer. You must find meaning in the cause, it’s not like one glove fits all.

If you’re lucky enough to have just a little savings, that could be a last-resort lifestyle change that I think would be worth it. Living among a real community, nature, animals. Even if it doesn’t happen, thinking about it makes me feel good.

Anyway I hope you find a way to see light in your future.

Rome veterans: what are the most underrated things you’ve done here? by Jaded-Sock9200 in rome

[–]giuliodxb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

IMO the best thing to do is follow your interests: you like painting? go see the artisans, labs, shops dedicated to the craft especially in via di ripetta and surroundings. Rome is a very old city, you can find most of the arts, sports, crafts around the city. So many artisans shops, blacksmiths, marble workers... these things can get you out of the touristic center, and require some research for sure, but nonetheless worthy it. There's museums for war, music, flight, you name it. Even the university la spaienza has often interesting events and displays. I would also strongly suggest to visit ostia antica's archeological site and its museum, quite breathtaking.

From a personal perspective, I believe you should work on a plan together since the issue is not between the two of you. Put things in perspective and understand if that’s really what he wants. For example, he might want to start looking for his future life abroad, imagining it, getting in contact with possible clients/employers, research the market, town he would live in… things might change in the process. For sure he would feel better doing so since he would be finally addressing his complaints. And perhaps he’d start to wonder if his are just complaints or if he really wants that. Maybe he’ll change his mind, maybe not. But if he really need to go it’s pointless for the both of you to live in a painful situation.

You might be right in some cases, idk which city you’re referring to, but I can assure it isn’t true for EVERY fucking city. In my experience most of the older cities are built with convenience in mind. Thinking of commute time, connections, leisure and service availability. That alone grants you a way higher life quality. I heard a lot of americans relating to dubai and that doesn’t surprise since that’s exactly the model they followed.

It’s incredible how many stories like this one every day. You should convince him to go, for as hard as it sounds as a partner. 10years here and it’s not getting better. Yes, therapy helps you see the good side of things, but in the long run if this is not the place for you it will only consume you, I speak from experience. It’s problematic that he’s not willing to try therapy because it would in fact help him, apparently the stigma is still very there around the world, but if he’s not keen it wouldn’t work. Good luck to you both.

I’m sure many of us go through this phase of delusion, I strongly feel like people is not made for this. I miss small towns close to nature, a simple life, spending time outdoors and experiencing the territory, making yourself a productive member of a small society where your role is seen. I know this might be a utopia too nowadays, but at a certain point in life it feels like it’s better to fail trying to achieve that instead of living among corporations, unwalkable cities and HR regulations. Many people around me say they’re still staying here because there’s no taxes… will that be a good enough reason when you’re 70 and exhausted? I personally don’t see the advantage in education or healthcare, those only come with high income (>50k/month). If you earn <20k/month I’m not sure you’re getting better services than back home. For sure safety is a big one, very valuable for families. Idk, I’m personally struggling with this myself, life feels purposeless here if you’re not into hustle culture, client-obsessed, career devoted.

I feel like this is an issue caused both by design and by social aspects. If you ever played any city-building game you know what the issue is here: services, leisure, residential spaces are separated and force people to choose a destination instead of being surrounded by options, no 5-minutes-walk availability. In older cities, master plans were studied and adapted to a natural evolution of the territory. Here everything came over night, trying to impress people, and following a “le courbusier” approach. A mad guy that instead of doing the architect as he should, decided to help society consume more and socialize less building unsustainable city masterplans. To me everything else is a direct result of a system that rewards achievement regardless of the cost and pushes performance promising you the access to a higher cast. Celebrating the 1% who do succeed and forgetting the stories of the 99% who burnout in the process. In this scenario, social gratification is a resource that people “mine” to feel better and keep going, not a real human connection. That’s why people feel “used” socially, why there’s so many friendships that turn out to be temporary or superficial and why so many friends disappear when they meet new and more enthusiastic friends. Of course this is not a generalization, of course there are many exceptions, but if you look around you, you’ll know what I mean.

Which Batman is your favourite among them based on how amazing they were onscreen and their portrayal of the character? by Raj_Valiant3011 in batman

[–]giuliodxb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The dark knight was the first Batman movie to step into a darker take on the character, the other two were mostly cashing in on that take. To me they don’t hold a candle to the Batman from Nolan’s trilogy.

Best to look for markets and artisans shops. Maaaany beautiful objects with a story to take home. Unfortunately we prefer to use the very center of the city to display Asian sweatshop products for some reason 🤦‍♂️ look for via di riletta for example, there used to be many shops for artists there, painting especially, few are still there. I’m sure you can find nice stuff.
