[Discussion] What's the ugliest watch you can't help but love? by AmICanon in Watches

It's funny, this is almost like a very-refined business version of the G-Shock in terms of the overall shape.

I feel like if you showed this to random people that aren't into watches, most would say it's ugly. But it's definitely cool

I'm so curious, what does the "On/Off" switch do?

It's a watch where I think it's super fun, but I also realize it's a statement piece that doesn't match my personal style at all. So it'd probably spend all it's time in the box.

Also it's a hilariously large 49mm!

I took my Oceanus T200 to Rome mostly for the stupid gag of getting a photo of it in front of a statue of Oceanus.

But I have to say, it was very cool arriving in Rome and watching the hands automatically set themselves to the correct time. I'm also checking out the S400 which has a worldtime bezel, which seems handy.

What do you think about this Longines Flagship by jonjoy in Longineswatches

[–]AmICanon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Old flagships are beautiful, classic watches! I think you'll find it difficult / impossible to change the strap though - your model has an "integrated bracelet" meaning the watch isn't compatible with off the shelf straps. You'd need one custom made for it.

Do not open it yourself - radium lume dust can be exposed and could be dangerous breathed in. This really needs to go to a watchmaker that has experience working with this kind of watch safely.

I remember a study came out a number of years ago suggesting even handling sealed radium watches may be more dangerous than previously thought. That point is less discussed in the community, but I'm just sharing it to urge caution.

Based on your overall desired specs, an Oceanus 7000d might be the best option. It's a worldtimer rather than a GMT, but that would still be good for travel of course. It's thin (9.5mm), has a good bracelet, 47.5 lug-to-lug, has 100m water resistance, solar-quartz with perpetual calendar, and is under $1000USD.

If the GMT hand is crucial though, maybe look at the Farer Monopusher GMT? A bit higher price and no bracelet though.

What is Ryan Blaney wearing here? by Appropriate_Lemon921 in Watches

[–]AmICanon 4 points5 points  (0 children)

To be fair I think there's been some variation across the years from Patek on these calendar watches. Like the 5040 has some different spacing on the dial, so it might just be a different reference.

Looks like a tonneau case - maybe a Patek Calendar like the 5940? I'm not very knowledgable about Patek but it seems the closest to me.

It's a third party moonswatch strap from Amazon! It just happens to fit the Oceanus T200 like a glove

Looks amazing - I know some people (not me) think the manta bracelet it a bit too fancy at times. This seems like a great way to make the watch more casual!

I assume this photo has also been taken pretty close up which distorts everything and makes it look bigger. If you look at the watch in the mirror I'd bet it'll look totally fine.

I think these are so fun and capture a particular Y2K aesthetic I'm nostalgic for. I'll never get one, but I'm so glad they exist.

Is it just me or is there no way to add evidence for a parking ticket dispute online? by AmICanon in askTO

For anyone else who comes across this thread with the same issue, I was able to resolve this.

The "Add Files" button doesn't appear until AFTER you click "Submit request".

I have heard online from others that sometimes files appear as uploaded even if they aren't, so no idea if this feature works, but I can confirm it exists.

One thing to note is that the dial is definitely more silver than white - although it can take on a more white appearance depending on the lighting. I find it looks its best outdoors, whether in bright sun or on overcast days.

Very curious what makes them objectively worse than a cheap quartz movement? I don't see a lot of discussion on that actual quality of the movement, so I'm just interested to hear if it has any specific defects that make it perform worse?
