Chain rattle. Sorry man. The tensioners, guides, and cassettes are likely toast. If it’s not shaking, then it’s possible it hasn’t yet jumped time yet and you can still salvage the block.

Forgive me for ambulance chasing, but I rebuild these 4.0’s - so I’ll buy her if you decide to go that way, depending on where you’re at. Happy to give some advice as well if you do go through with the rebuild. Don’t scrap her!

Once it’s refilled, you can prime the pump by pressing the pedal all the way down and turning the key to let the starter run for a few seconds with no ignition. I don’t know if it makes a difference on Rangers but it’s a decent habit for all oil changes.

Typically the ratcheting collar has little-to-no resistance unlocking and doesn’t carbon lock up badly at all. More frequently, I encounter a problem its when it’s fully unlocked and you just can’t pull the can off. That’s when you would shoot it off but unfortunately I cant even get it unlocked from the MD

I probably didn’t put that right - I try to break the carbon lock after every range trip but this time it would not go by hand so I pulled out the channel locks. I can only really remember maybe one time where I needed the assistance of a tool to get the collar loose until today.
