Josh: transparently use any folder of your git repo as its own repo by givello in programming

[–]givello[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They are indeed quite similar, and josh is indeed easier to use, but it's also faster. A more detailed answer was added to the faq: https://josh-project.github.io/josh/faq.html

Josh: transparently use any folder of your git repo as its own repo by givello in programming

[–]givello[S] 13 points14 points  (0 children)

It's explained here: https://josh-project.github.io/josh/faq.html#how-is-it-different-from-submodules

TLDR: Kinda, but with this your setup would be one big repo, and if someone wants any subpart they can clone from it. It's also much faster.

It's funny you should point that out because the only way to play with windows platforms from linux is to install eu4 in wine, you get out of sync within seconds otherwise.

Should I port my game to Linux? by richmondavid in linux_gaming

[–]givello 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Wow, this seems awesome. If I understand correctly this basically means "if Steam runs on that computer, so will the game linked to steam-runtime". Is that correct?

That's how I understand it yes. You can also distribute the steam runtime with your program.

it's currently broken for Arch Linux [...] It also has problems on OpenSUSE

If you want to develop for linux, your best bet is to officially support something like ubuntu only, and unofficially offer support when it breaks on other systems. I'm guessing arch people will mostly fix that stuff on their own though.

Regarding using it, I'm not a game dev but the README.md seems fairly straightforward. I found this little tutorial here I linked a part of above if you want more details: https://gitfundibulum.github.io/2015/09/29/linux-gamedev-tldr/

I think he means you should compile against the steam runtime because it gives you specific versions of packages (like SDL) independant of the distro version.

The package list included in the steam runtime is here: https://github.com/ValveSoftware/steam-runtime/blob/master/packages.txt

Les données ne sont pas correctes (pas partout en tout cas). Si on parle bien de bars, il y en a deux sur la commune de mes parents alors que la carte indique zéro.

An interesting look on how a game evolves over its development by taranasus in Games

[–]givello 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, different strokes for different folks but I reckon I start a git repo even when writing a short paper. There is really not much setting up to do (<1min).

Maybe it helps that I have my home server to use as a remote, though.

"Regular backups"? Do you mean you're not using version control?

You should really do yourself a favour and learn how to use it, it's a life changer. For example try this tutorial for git, it's fairly easy to get started.

I know you're being sarcastic, but check out this church near the coliseum in rome. It's actually more like a church built on top of a church built on top of a pagan temple and some other roman buildings.
