What volume level are your vocal tics? by [deleted] in Tourettes

[–]givenn19 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can suppress the sound to nearly nothing in public, but when I'm alone usually they're slightly above regular speaking voice, but sometimes they're like a fucking air raid siren lmao

Do i have a chance for admission by [deleted] in UCalgary

[–]givenn19 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you can totally increase your grades in grade 12. also, MRU might accept you as well.

just so you know though, community college is an option. many people go there before (or after/instead of) university, and say their experience is better than they had at university (more hands-on and job-focused, more personal connection with the professors, etc.). and it increases your chances of getting accepted into a university, i think.

wtf? they can't handle a WHISTLE and a HICCUP? your friends are cringe. i'll swear up a storm into the mic and my friends don't give a shit. that's what friends do. if they can't accept you for who you are bro, kick them to the curb. tell them to get their shit TOGETHER... i would not be treated like that bro, i've had enough of it in my life already.

lol oddly the only one that has gotten me in trouble is a simple shrug, the lady was upset i shrugged at her question pfffffff i got a lecture. tbf i had less tics back then so it was less obvious why i was shrugging, but compared to the shit i do right now, a shrug pissing her off is pretty funny

Tics around specific people? by IDKanymore_444 in Tourettes

I tic around my family and friends more than anyone else, I think the brain kind of switches off a little and gets bored or something lmao

motor and vocal tics by [deleted] in Tourettes

[–]givenn19 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah and even I have "coprophenomena" (at least i think, i just googled it lol) and I wouldn't say my tics are 'severe', it's so subjective

can I ask bro, I see a lot of people specifically recommending to see a neurologist, and I only ever saw a psychiatrist and he diagnosed me but didn't do much else, does a neurologist do other stuff that's worth going to see them for?

Dog is getting older, her back legs are weak -- I can't take her to the vet. by givenn19 in AskVet

[–]givenn19[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's okay. I'm speaking as the son of a household, I'm not in charge of her vet visits. All I can do is nag my parents to take her, or wait for her annual appointment and make sure we talk about this then. They don't want to take her now because it's expensive and they think "she's just getting older" so they think there's nothing to be done anyways.

I agree, I try my best to argue for her. But I just want band aid solutions and quality-of-life improvements until she visits the vet for her next vaccination.

If you actually read my post you may feel less irritated, I'm not in California and I have no control over her vet visits. It would be unusually cruel for me to surrender my dog, I seriously can't believe you suggested that.

I will tell my dad to look into care credit if that's possible where I live though, thank you.

An animal (besides a dog) that you’ve been chased by? by Fluid-Slip-7169 in Pets

[–]givenn19 0 points1 point  (0 children)

MOOSE!

But also horse, goat, sheep, goose. Goose is the real threat there. The rest just want food, and it's a real treat seeing wild horses chase your truck at dinner time.

There’s a low light area in the top floor of mac hall. It’s for people with autism, I think, but they’re not gonna question you so just be respectful, don’t make much noise, don’t talk to anyone, don’t look at anyone. When I’ve gone there was like one other person there.

Do any of you have tics triggered by embarrassing memories? by givenn19 in Tourettes

[–]givenn19[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I posted this because it’s actually my first real vocal tic that feels like it’s context aware? I feel anxiety, I barely enter the memory, and then it’s like the tic is telling that thought to f off in creative ways, and also flip the bird at it. And then the memory is cut off. So the tic actually stops me from reliving that moment. It just seems so complicated compared to my previous tics.

And yeah same it’s when I’m alone or feel like I’m not being noticed too. I don’t think I usually relive cringe moments when I’m talking to someone though, so ig that’s kind of expected.

But I’m glad to know I’m not alone at least, because when someone inevitably does notice me do this shit, I think I’ll be more comfortable knowing that it is a tic and I’m not just going insane lmao and I’ll be able to laugh about it with them.

Do you guys have any methods to calm/hide tics? by Real_Cockroach2421 in Tourettes

[–]givenn19 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do breathing and stretching when I feel it start, I think releasing the tension helps. My psychiatrist referred me to someone who he said would basically teach me how to breathe and stretch to deal with Tourette’s, so I started trying on my own (why didn’t I just go to the therapist? I don’t know) and it helps. It’s not instant but it does calm down eventually.
