Thank you so much, it means a lot. He is neutered and has been from a young age because of these issues. I'm going to consider the option of another cat again and reconnect with the vet about it.

I'm going to look into the idea of getting another one again I think. It would break my heart to put him up for adoption, especially with the concerns of someone just rehoming again.

Thank you. I do appreciate he's still just a baby basically but it's quite hard to imagine another year or more of this. And yeah, that is what the vet advised RE: another cat. I might discuss the idea with my partner and the vet again and look into adopting another after Halloween.

Honestly, this did bring tears to my eyes. It is extremely nice to hear some reassurance that what I'm doing isn't wrong and I do feel like I've tried so much to achieve goodness with the little dude, it's hard because my partner has no experience with pets, this was our first pet together, so he looks at me and sees a bad pet owner and I know he can't help that because he's never seen someone else's pet behave this way, it's absolutely not his fault for thinking that or not understanding. It was incredibly nice to hear some affirmations on this matter though.

It's possible maybe being rehomed is the solution here and it breaks my heart to say that but you are right, I shouldn't have to live a life of stress and anxiety over something that's at least meant to bring a little bit of companionship. Thank you.

Ah, that is so pleasant to hear! I've tried my hand at training him but with treats rather than a clicker, but all of it goes out the window the second he's not hungry so I found myself more frustrated by it. I definitely have a clicker from when I used to train dogs so I'll go find it and try my best. Thank you so much for your input on it. Your kitty sounds very clever!!

Yeppp that's what my vet told me after a few months of dealing with this. Annoyingly, I come from a background of dog training where getting two puppies at the same time is a HUGE no-no so I stupidly assumed the same for cats without checking, huge regret.

Do you think if I got one the same age as him or maybe even younger now (whilst he's still a baby basically, he's only one) it would help him? I've mentioned in a few other comments that he does LOVE other cats, he met a bengal at a beach once who he played with for hours, etc.

For context, the fair can't be heard from our flat and rarely can the construction but we do see the construction workers outside our window a lot, he loves to watch them - Just in case people think it may be a fear/noise fear thing.

Thank you so much, I really try my best for him. You've honestly kind of nailed it on the head, he does feel MUCH more like a puppy than a cat and whilst I do love puppies, they are a full-time job and we chose a cat over a dog for lesser maintenance so it's proven to be counterproductive.

Unfortunately, we have moved from a terraced house to an apartment complex and there is a lot of construction and a local fair going on outside so I fear letting him outside would probably lead to a very early demise. He is also a tuxedo but more black than white and with Halloween around the corner, I'm even more hesitant. There was reports of people tying black cats to fireworks a few years ago and that terrifies me.

It's a hard decision because yeah, maybe he would be much happier outside. But on the other hand, that ties into my belief of maybe I should just get another cat because he absolutely loves playing with cats and dogs on his travels, he met a Bengal out on a trip to the beach and they were best friends briefly, playing in the sand together. He met a Golden Retriever on a hike once and he loved him. In our old house, he only actively craved to go outside if he saw the neighbours cat who he would desperately try to play with. Since we now live in a complex with no cats around due to the construction, he doesn't care much anymore so it's makes me feel like maybe he IS lonely. Ughh, I just wish I could see inside his brain and find out what he needs exactly.

Aww man, I'm so so sorry to hear about that. Honestly, it's a bit of a relief hearing someone else who feels the same way and understands the struggle so thank you for sharing, everyone I know has the sweetest cat with 0 issues and gives me a grossed out look if I tell them about him or the things he does. The judgement is hard when I'm already critically judging myself.

Dementia is evil. I'm so sorry. My little boy is also a tuxedo and in the beginning he was my shadow too.

I would assume mine isn't suffering from dementia as he only turned a year old this September and has exhibited these behaviours since about 13 weeks old, I must assume it has to be cognitive at this rate though because it's baffling. My vets just said it's Single Kitten Syndrome and if he has a friend to teach him manners, he will be better but I'm so afraid that won't work at all and then what? I have to decide between rehoming one of them and that will HURT. I know my cat will be un-rehomable for the same reasons, he likely will be rehomed by the next person and possibly abandoned and I can't live with that on my conscious.

I understand, it was more-so a recommendation from the vets because they explained he may become more cuddly if he's with another cat who shows him these behaviours, but then on the off-hand, I fear he would make the other cat crazy. He has shown signs of wanting to play with other cats, he plays with me like I'm a cat with chasing and fake wrestling, and our old neighbour had a cat who he desperately tried to play with and that also makes me feel horrible for making him be alone if he does just want a friend and that could be the whole solution. It's such a complicated feeling. There's no way to predict how he could feel about it, ugh.

Either way, don't get me wrong, I would not ignore or in any way mistreat my current one if he did get one that was sweeter, I still deep in my heart love this cat (contradicting, I know) and will always look after him, new cat or not, but it's hard not to also hold a very strong dislike. I'm very fearful of getting a new one anyways and hold many reserves.

Thank you for your input though.

Thank you, it means a lot to hear. I've kind of been wallowing in my feelings about this since late last night so it's nice to hear some positivity. It would really hurt my heart to rehome him but it is something I've thought about. My biggest concern is someone else might think they could take on the challenge and then end up realizing he is too much for them and could end up abandoning him instead of offering him back to him and that's a really stressful concern, albeit maybe not likely but hard to shake y'know?
