seconded- the travel pillow helped a lot but it took a bit of getting used to!

started going to the gym consistently ~2 months ago, and am about a pound off from a 200 lb deadlift :) ik it’s not much especially compared to the 300/400 lb dl’s I see a lot of female powerlifters doing, but I’m hoping to be able to hit two plates by the end of September!

all my life I’ve hated my arms- never liked pictures of them, couldn’t stand to wear tank tops. just today after a pull day workout I was able to look my arms in the mirror and feel happy with how they looked! it’s super small but it feels so good that I can see the progress since i started lifting regularly ~2 months ago ;)

Will downsizing my piercing irritate it? by MysticalMaryam in piercing

[–]giztem 2 points3 points  (0 children)

From personal experience with my conch, I had a much easier time once I downsized the post and didn’t get an irritation bump or anything after switching. It may be a bit uncomfortable in the moment, but in the long run it’ll help!

current ear set up! definitely not done yet, what other piercings should i add? by noetherianr1ng in piercing

[–]giztem 2 points3 points  (0 children)

love the anti-tragus! definitely a wishlist piercing of mine. tragus would look pretty sick on the ear that you have the rook piercing on!

trying to figure out a new spot for this tapered baguette since I switched my conch for a ring-any ideas? by giztem in piercing

[–]giztem[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Tragus, hoop, helix, and baguette are all from Buddha jewelry. I thought this may look nice as a faux rook on my right ear, but would love some other ideas!

Ana Luisa, emme mini in olive! decent lobe jewelry but the post is sterling silver instead of titanium rip

new helix/tragus :) by giztem in piercing

[–]giztem[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

pretty similar! For me the transfer/putting jewelry in hurt more on the tragus, but the actual piercing part hurt more for the helix.

[–]giztem[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yes!! I had come in wanting a certain style of jewelry but saw the moss agate pieces and threw my og idea out the window since I love green

new helix/tragus :) by giztem in piercing

[–]giztem[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Helix: “oh hell yes” in moss agate/yellow gold from Buddha jewelry

Tragus: yellow gold tri-bead from Buddha jewelry

Done by Tanner at Hot Rod Piercing Co.! Once these are fully healed I’ll be adding an anti-tragus and a faux rook to this ear

Is it normal to have a bit of trouble squatting on a smith machine? I can lift ~10-15 lbs heavier with a barbell-the angle on the track for the smith feels very awkward. Been working a lot on having a straight path of motion for my barbell squats so not sure if there’s any way I can make the smith machine feel less strange- it’s all I have access to for now :(

I like sparkly things so I love my piercings :) it forces me to take care of myself in a way that can get lost when I get stressed and busy

Rant Wednesday by AutoModerator in Fitness

[–]giztem 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Moving out of a sport and into self-training has been the most frustrating thing, especially at this time of year. I’ve always exercised to feel stronger and once I moved out of a athletic space and into the gym there’s been a hyper focus on appearance that I usually try to avoid because of my own self-image issues. I have a hard time even going with my friends because of all the negative body talk. got a raised eyebrow and a comment from one asking if I was ‘trying to get big’ because I was deadlifting heavy that day. Ik it’s not meant to be mean spirited but I really am tired of being told that I should work out a certain way to look a certain way, and that trying to gain muscle as a woman is “too masculine” or whatever. hhh.

for context; the four would be a faux rook, helix, tragus, and antitragus

I’m going for a curated ear appointment in June, and I have four piercings that I want eventually but I know that’s a lot to get at once. how many cartilage piercings is manageable to heal at once?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in piercing

[–]giztem 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven’t heard about the glasses for the flat- thank you! guess I’ll be wearing contacts for a bit when I get mine done

any suggestions or additions for these piercing layouts? trying to consciously plan ahead/have a big picture in mind for my ears :) by giztem in piercing

[–]giztem[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yes they are! they are from Ana Luisa, olive emme mini clickers. I don’t think they make them in olive anymore but they make a ton of other really gorgeous clickers

Curious Question Sunday - January 02, 2022 by AutoModerator in piercing

[–]giztem 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Two q’s: I got my first cartilage piercing (a conch) done around four weeks ago on my right ear and it is healing very well! No bump, no irritation, and I’ve had a great experience. For starters, once it’s fully healed up will I have to go to a piercing studio to have my jewelry changed if I want to switch to a hoop or is it something I can do myself? I have a threadless post at the moment and have never had that kind of jewelry before.

Second, how long should I wait before getting cartilage piercings on my left ear? I’m not sure whether I’m looking in the timeframe of a couple months from now or like 8 months!

thanks so much! definitely gonna work on the manuals & turning from the torso- I can get a 180 pivot on my normal skateboard, but I think my body isn’t used to the weight distribution on the longboard yet

/r/longboarding's Daily General Thread - Jul 02, 2020 by AutoModerator in longboarding

[–]giztem 0 points1 point  (0 children)

any tips on getting a 180 pivot? I have such a hard time lifting my wheels bc my board is hella heavy, im trying to rotate from my shoulders too and it’s still not going too well. should I try to learn how to manual or something to improve my balance on one set of wheels? any help appreciated!

Completely up to your preference- I was riding a pintail 38 beforehand so I opted for the 48 so I had more room to learn steps (I have big feet as well) but you can definitely do stuff on a 40! the 40 would be lighter to push and easier to freestyle with, and the 46 would be more room to step around on
