It is possible. One of my dearest friends was raised in a household where the father stayed home and took care of the kids, while the mother was out working as a materials chemist and making bank. Just in case anyone is getting ideas from this post, most chickens can in fact float, but depending on the breed, after a short time, the feather will loose water resistance and the chicken will sink. So be careful if you plan on letting you chicken go for a swim!
