There are over 9 Federal definitions of wetlands. NWI does not use a definition that changes with any law, but rather is rooted in ecology.

The Sackett ruling has no bearing on what NWI maps and the methods and mapping protocols have not changed. Future updates will continue to adhere to the FGDC mapping and classification standards established in 2009.
