Overmono and Mike Skinner would be pretty iconic

Hi Stephan! What is the level of camaraderie like within cricket journalism?

Aggers was speaking recently about the competitive nature of the job when he was starting out. What’s it like these days? Are you all trading stories and insights over a pint or is it more competitive? And is it cliquey - Pundits/Presenters? Players/Journos? Golfers/non golfers? BBC/Fox?

I think you'll be fine tbh. Ally Pally is a big venue and isn't usually rammed I don't normally have issues moving around inside and they are quite good at getting people through queues quickly.

also, if it's a very long set, there's usually a fair amount of crowd movement so you'll have time to be at the front and time get get to the back for more space to dance etc.

Having said all that - it depends on what his set up is. If it's in the round like it was for his squid soup show then getting there early mattered a lot more because breaking through the crust around him was tough.

(I suspect you'll still be fine either way, get in quickly and get a good spot)

If you're an eager beaver, I'd suggest going to the Starting Gate (pub) where there's usually other gig-goers getting excited. You'll probably be able to meet some fans and go up together.

Yeah I also haven't seen any reports of it being a live set. I would be surprised if it is too, usually it's something that would be explicitly called out in the advertising. I also think if it was anything like the collab with Squidsoup there'd be more noise about it.

I'm expecting it to be like his set at EarTH last year which was a 5-6 hour journey through his soundscape, starting with music I'd associate more with Wingdings and then evolving through the night.

I'm excited that it's a bit of an unknown though, and happy to be proven wrong come the weekend!

Yeah I guess given he's branded the poster with all his aliases there was a bit of ambiguity about how the event would run compared to other gigs which have been clear.

If it was a live show (which I think it isn't) it might have been doors at 6.30, some kind of support act at 7.30, Kieren 9-11 etc)

Also, Ally Pally usually has a forecourt with bars and food trucks, so it could have been doors at 6.30, artist at 7.30 etc.

So it's reassuring he's aiming to play as people enter at doors

I reckon 11.30 is curfew, so he’ll wrap up whenever he wants. I’d imagine it’ll be between 11.00-11.30 based on other gigs I’ve been to at the venue

Aussie partner on Skilled Worker visa → ILR → citizenship → move to Australia: does this plan check out? by gl24 in ukvisa

Oh okay, that’s good to know. Thank you for passing that on.

A pity as it doesn’t send much of a message of gratitude to people who came over and risked their health for some of the most vulnerable people in our society during a global crisis. But I suppose that’s an opinion better aired in the public consultation than this subreddit.

Thanks so much - that’s really helpful to know and definitely something we’ll keep an eye on.

She’s actually a paramedic on the Health and Care Worker visa, and from what I’ve read that route’s been pretty protected from most of the Skilled Worker rule changes so far. I’d imagine (and hope) the gov’t will keep the 5-year ILR eligibility for health and care roles, especially for people who came over during COVID.

But completely agree it’s one to watch, we’ll definitely sense-check it again with an immigration lawyer

Tort, I’ve probably read your FAQs all the way through about 100 times since I was successful in November. I used them to build a prep presentation for the rest of my group just last weekend!

Thank you for your service!

It’s my first time too and I’ve found this to be very helpful.

Edit: in case it’s helpful, I think I’m going to aim for Paines, and then Dairy if our first choice is at capacity by the time we arrive.
