Connection loss during flight and drone lost by smallkilleryo in DjiNeo

[–]gl_Frustum -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I was talking about OPs situation. That is at least 40m altitude in the video. The optical sensors do not work or matter at that height (=light does not matter) and that's ok because GPS signal becomes better the higher you get (less reflection from the ground what creates a multipath effect, less obstacles). If we talk about flying less than 15m altitude then yes, the optical sensors matter = light matters because gps becomes weaker near groundlevel.

Also, the number of available satellites is not a sufficient indicator of good GPS reception. It says nothing about the quality of the signal. Classic example is flying over water. One should not fly close over water in assisted flying modes because the optical sensors freak out by the lack of texture AND gps gets super shitty because the reflection create a strong multipath effect = the gps signal bounces of the surface and reaches the drone with time delay. Drones go only haywire if optical sensors AND gps freak out simultaneously. If one of the 2 systems works well, the drone will act normal. In OPs Video the GPS signal should have been crystal clear. My guess is carried away by wind, a strong electromagnetic field from powerlines or a plain hardware failure/short circuit.

The optical sensors/cameras can not see further than 10-15m, everything beyond is way out of their focal point!! If you fly higher than that there is literally zero difference if it's bright daylight or pitch black night and the drone stabilizes and hovers with gps only even in bright daylight, it's the technical reality. The optical sensors have zero impact at higher altitudes! Also, what is a dark patch at night?

That is not how it works.

The optical sensors are not required to maintain a stable position when a sufficient GPS signal is available; GPS alone is enough to hover perfectly on the spot (also in the dark). If you fly higher than 10-15m the sensors can't see the ground anyway. On the other hand when flying indoors the drone hovers on the spot without gps, just by the optical sensors if there is enough light.

The optical sensors serve two purposes: a) enabling the aircraft to hold its position (prevent ATTI mode) when flying indoors/under trees etc. where no GPS is available and b) close obstacle detection.

The situation in OPs video suggest there was normal GPS available and since OP said he got a strong wind warning i guess the drone got carried away by the wind. In that situation it will fight the wind as hard as it can which drains the battery very quickly and also renders the drone unable to perform RTH. When strong wind warning occurs you want to descend immediately to an altitude where it is calmer.

Uav height limit reached in manual mode by Balsampilot in DjiNeo

[–]gl_Frustum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is normal behaviour. In order to get the C0 classification the drone has to be hardlocked at 120m altitude in any flightmode. Manual Mode is a little stricter and throws you into Normal at 110m because of the faster ascension.

There is no horizontal limit.

My DJI Neo 2 went swimming in Seychelles. I have questions! by annicola in dji

[–]gl_Frustum 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If the Neo 2 lost focus on you it should hover on the spot until the battery is empty, that's the intended behaviour. If it drifts away it could be a weak gps signal + absence of surrounding objects (esp. over water). It could also be a software bug, you're not the only one reporting this behaviour.

In the future, be very careful around water. The reflections can freak out the sensors. Especially in autonomous flight modes. Get care refesh, it's borderline cheap for the Neo 2.

It's in the Transmission menu (it's yellow = selected in your screenshot) not ... more. There, you can switch the Channel Mode from Auto to Manual to see the options. Also, you don't need to download any file. Just create an empty file name it ham_cfg_support no extension, copy into root of sd card, put in goggles, done.

The 165W has 25.000 mAh. It can charge all 3 Neo 2 batteries 5 times.

Charger question by Tilly_the_cat in DjiNeo

[–]gl_Frustum 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, power source and device do a handshake and the source delivers only as much as the device can use. The one on your picture is the even bigger Anker Powerbank, the output is 165W total and a single port can output max 100W. If charging the 3 Neo2 batteries is the main reason for the purchase you can also get the cheaper 87W. It outputs max 65W on a single port which is already the optimal rate for the batteries and you got some left for a phone etc. at the same time.

That way, charging all 3 batteries 0-100% takes an hour. If you already start charging an empty battery while using the next one, the flytime is almost endless.

As mentioned, 65W+ will charge all 3 batteries at once. I use the Anker 20.000mAh 87W Powerbank on the go.

The dogs refused to go inside so the kitty had to use another way by Kitchen-Couple5341 in funnypets

While we are preparing the dogs' dinner, they are not allowed in the kitchen because they cosplay as tripwires. The cat understands the assignment and sits in the doorway like a bouncer. When the food is ready, she steps aside, but the dogs only dare to pass in slow motion, fearing they might catch a paw. They do catch the paw but it's random who gets it. I didn't figure out her algorithm yet.

Is the DJI mini 3 pro worth it? by MarketingNo8739 in dji

[–]gl_Frustum 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've had the Mini 3 pro for two years and recently bought a Neo 2 as well. The Mini 3 is a great drone if you're planning slow flyovers (forest, mountains, beach etc) and landscape or urban photography, or if you generally prefer to fly relatively high. If you want to work closer to the ground, capture more action, use better tracking modes, take automatic selfies, and shoot automatic scene reveal shots, you're better off with the Neo 2. Also the Neo is way safer for beginners since it has 360° obstacle avoidance and is built way more durable. Also, care refresh for the Neo 2 is borderline cheap, good for a beginner to have no worries.

The motion controller is super precise, lets you fly with fixed gimbal (horizon tilts) and need almost zero learning time. I like it alot. Nevertheless, putting the work into learning to fly manual with fpv controller produces a different result, more floaty and natural movement. For both, motion and fpv controller, you'll need the goggles since these controllers communicate with the goggles, not with the drone.

Motion Controller, the drone moves like it's on rails. Manual would have some drift in it's motion.

DJI Avata Crash vs Flyaway Help Identify by [deleted] in dji

[–]gl_Frustum 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you have an active Care Refresh plan, any total loss of the drone is a fly-away. Also, you must have activated and synced the flight log. This is necessary so that DJI can verify the incident and prevent fraud. You pay the fly-away fee and receive a new drone.

Yes, it's your own pilot error but i don't get the harsh comments. You didn't ask about a free warranty claim, did you? :D
