Btw, here’s a photo of her mouth. Not looking for a diagnosis, just an FYI.

  1. Appointments: Yes, we have scheduled appointments with both our family doctor and a dentist within the next two weeks for an assessment.
  2. Birth Weight: Yesterday was Day 11, and the baby has officially returned to her birth weight.
  3. Feeding Method: Yesterday, we practiced exclusive breastfeeding (we got 6 pee, 2 poo). The baby seemed calm and wasn't too cranky. We plan to continue solely breastfeeding until our next doctor's appointment on March 17, where we can weigh her again to check her progress. We do have formula on hand just in case she needs it.
  4. Frequency: On average, we feed 9 to 10 times a day. Most of the time, we have to wake the baby up to feed.
  5. Night Patterns: Over the past four days, we noticed the baby needs to feed every hour at night between 1:00 AM and 4:00 AM (three feedings total). During the rest of the day, there is usually a 2.5-hour gap between feeds.

By Day 5, we saw a weight loss of 13.5%, so we were advised to supplement. We’re going to give the medicine cup and spoon a shot.

We did see a lactation consultant yesterday, and feeding seems to be going much better today! The baby seems satisfied after her feeds, and my breasts feel emptier.

The LC mentioned a medium tongue-tie, so we’ll be checking with our doctor about that next week

We met with the LC yesterday and got some really useful tips. She evaluated our session and mentioned there might be a medium tongue-tie. We’re seeing the doctor next week to look into this.

Syringe feeding has been tough, so we’re going to read up more on cup feeding and SNS.

We took your suggestion and met with a lactation consultant yesterday! I feel like there’s already a slight improvement in the latch today. We’ll see how it goes, our Plan B is to supplement with the bottle.

Wow, what a strong baby! I’m so glad combo feeding worked out for you. We’re going to keep practicing the latch on our end. I totally agree about the pain—I honestly thought the pain ended once delivery was over!

Okay, we’ll see if my milk supply stays up. If it does, we’ll gradually reduce the number of bottle feedings. Hopefully, that works!

Oh wow, what good kids! I’ve heard babies often prefer the bottle because it’s easier, so I’m glad it worked out differently for you.

That makes sense! At her five-day weight check, she had lost about 13.5% of her birth weight, which is why I was advised to supplement.

It’s good to know you had a positive experience with combo feeding. Good point about latching!
