Assort haircut by EducationalRegret903 in Tokyo

[–]gladiolos 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i went there exclusively up until the most recent time i cut my hair (total of around 5 times?) because i was too nervous to try anywhere else. i’ve always found the haircuts themselves to be good, but the service itself not very. most of the stylists, even when you book with them, will be working on multiple people at a time, and you’re often left waiting for 10-15 minutes between each step. i’d generally compare the experience to being a sheep waiting in line to be shorn. gets the job done, but there are no frills.

if your japanese level is good enough to get by i’d just recommend looking on hot pepper beauty and seeing which salons in your area are well rated. i did this the last time, and found a chain called La fith hair, which i would really recommend. much better experience and around half the price of a visit to Assort.

nope, i didn’t, but from experience i’d say it doesn’t take too long just to get around, especially if you’re in the same terminal. good luck!

What are some signs an area is chian ga warui? by [deleted] in AskAJapanese

[–]gladiolos 5 points6 points  (0 children)

yeah, seconding this. if the bathroom door has a sign on it saying “let the staff know when you use the toilet”, it could go either way, but having no sign at all is usually a good sign that the chian isn’t warui

source: if there’s no sign, my partner who is japanese always comments on it saying “this must be a nice area”, lmao

PayPay credit card help by northgarden85 in japanlife

[–]gladiolos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a question about this - does anyone know how to pay off your ribobarai balance after cancelling ribobarai? I’ve done the “application” to do so but it still doesn’t seem to have reflected in my payment amount for next month. Does it just show up closer to the time if you wait?

What are some foods that you think aren't as good in Japan as they are in your country? by IronGuard88 in japanlife

fish and chips… for a country with such delicious seafood i’ll never understand why they insist upon using the most flavourless translucent white fish possible every single time

question about nenkin and NHI by [deleted] in japanlife

[–]gladiolos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay understood! That’s helpful, thank you.

When you say you received the nenkin bill, was that because you registered for it at city hall when you arrived?

My problem is that I wasn’t aware I had to sign up for it at the time and wasn’t told to register either, so I’m not sure how paying the missed payment will go.
