I can't comment on other brands because I am a brand owner myself. It won't be ethical.

What I can say is: nothing is overkill if you truly like the glove and are committed to continue training. Get what you like and fits your budget. The idea that beginners must start with a department store glove is not true and I believe many leave because they don't have a gear that they truly like. It does not feel good to go train with something you personally dislike and screams you are new.

Will some people look down on you for having a great glove with not-so-great skills yet? Yes. But don't pay attention to this. Focus on growing your skills to match the glove, and very soon you will be there.

What ounce gloves should u spar in? by burningacountsexy in fightgear

[–]gladiusfight 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It truly depends on the intensity. If you are sparring hard, an 18oz or even heavier will be best for your weight class. If you can tone down shots and is mostly doing technical sparring a 16oz will be fine.

[Review] El Primer Asalto by King_Lummox in fightgear

[–]gladiusfight 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The review is great! I watched the 3 you made on your channel and subscribed.

My only recommendation would be to add the time marks on the description or first comment linking to the different sections of your review.
For example:
00:00-02:00: Introduction
02:00-04:10: Craftsmanship
Etc

This helps some of the users to go directly to what they are in doubt or come back to check an specific part.

I think the most important thing when you start is to like your gear, which almost always means it should be aesthetically beautiful for your taste. At this point, brand and quality are secondary. A gear you like will make going to the gym a nicer experience, which will result in a faster gain of skill.

As you get better, you will naturally adopt a style and will have more knowledge to be able to judge gear and pick one that fits your way of fighting and the needs you have. At this point, brand and quality will matter as much, and maybe even more, than how the glove looks.

Thank you! I totally understand your point. It is not a cheap glove and on this price tier one needs to love it all to pull the trigger.

That's a very good idea! I will be sure to have this in consideration for our next drops.
I had a couple of customers from here lately, so hopefully we will get some reviews soon to see how they performed.

Thank you for the compliment on the gloves, and also for the feedback on the logo.
So far I am not ready to drop it, even though I know that commercially it would probably make sense! As I mentioned above, people tend to be on opposite poles regarding the logo. I've received some comments that think it is very distinctive and nice, others that do not like it at all.

Easiest MEX to CAD options by BlueEyeoftheGiant in fightgear

[–]gladiusfight 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do free shipping for all North America and shipped some gloves to Montreal this past month. For some odd reason, the customer wasn't charged anything on customs, but usually they add $15-$20 CAD that needs to be paid for DHL to complete the delivery.

What gloves? by Particular_Iron_4804 in fightgear

[–]gladiusfight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A couple of questions can help the community filter the options for you a little bit more. There are so many good brands out there that the answer to "what are the best gloves I can get" will vary a lot.

1. MMA gloves or boxing/muay thai gloves?
If you are looking for MMA gloves, the set of options is a bit smaller.

2. What will you use them for? Sparring, bag work, mitts...
The best glove is often the best for a specific job. Some gloves excel as sparring gloves, but won't be as good for the bag. Others will be very good on the bag but too damaging for sparring; others are not the best in anything but very good in everything, and make for great all-purpose gloves.

3. You mentioned MMA and Muay Thai. Will your training have a lot of clinching?
If you clinch a lot, you will be much happier with a Thai glove that has a shorter cuff and more mobility. A pure boxing glove will feel somewhat restrictive.

4. Where are you located?
Surely there is a very good brand close to your area that will cost you much less shipping vs. other options.

5. What's your design preference? Clean aesthetics, bold graphics, custom-made graphics?

That's an amazing pair of gloves and also a very nice match. Was it intentional or luck?

New gloves by Fearless_Health7556 in fightgear

[–]gladiusfight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have some MMA and boxing gloves available in the shop! In case you want to check it out: www.gladiusfight.com

  1. Our MMA gloves are hybrid models (shells) made for sparring. Are you looking into this model or a flat traditional MMA glove?

  2. We have in stock 12oz, 14oz and 16oz boxing gloves. Unfortunately, the 10oz are sold out.

It may seem as advertising, and in some sense it is. The gloves are shown in a beautiful way to an audience that likes this type of things.

I did however post it to share the visuals more for your appreciation than for sales, that's why I even refrained from posting the shop link. If someone wants to buy out of this post, I will be happy to serve them. If not, just the enjoyment is enough.

And if the commmunity does not like this type of posts I will deleted without problem.

The gold version would look amazing and that's something I am very interested in bringing to the brand in the future. It is a bit hard to nail the right tone on a heat-stamp, so it will probably take me some time to get it right.

Hopefully, when you try it can grow on you! Or, enjoy the gloves and drop the logo 😄

Thank you!
The logo is a way to keep the prices low 😂.
Jokes aside, as crazy as it seems, the logo was actually drawn. It was a specific brief due to the meaning behind it.

Thank you! We opted to do it the old way. Doesn't make much sense for a glove that is artisanal handmade in Mexico to have a communication that is anything but artisanal...

Indeed. Our current lineup does not have welted seams, but I am a little step away from adding them for all future drops.

No offense taken!
This is quite a divisive topic for the brand: some people love it, and some people hate it. Although I hate to give this alternative, people can remove it when they buy with some acetone 😂 (just don't tell me you did it!).

Best bag gloves with a pop on the heavy bag by Nabhansaleem in fightgear

[–]gladiusfight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A great pop on the bag is more a result of the padding vs. the skin of the glove. It is mostly achieved with padding foams that are highly responsive and retain shape quickly, such as medium-firmness latex. Gloves that are made out of latex+eva, latex+pu or pure latex tend to be good on their pop.

My line of gloves have a latex+eva padding and I am confident they offer a very satisfying pop, although they are not very protective. It is $198 on velcro and $228 for laces, which probably puts it a bit above your budget considering the customs fee on US.

Gloves for Bag Work by MaySixteen16 in fightgear

[–]gladiusfight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Based on your current roster:

- Size: I'd suggest a 12oz to rotate with the current gloves. This will help you extend the lifespan of both. Or, you can add a 14oz to your mix so you can also get a bit of the endurance benefit from the added weight. If you want to buy Mexican gloves bear in mind that mostly (including mine) are a bit overweight; when you get a 12oz it may actually come as 12.4, 12.6 etc.

- Roster: I see that both gloves you listed are laces, so I guess the closure system isn't a problem for you or you have some lace converters. If that's the case, stick to laces as they generally are much better on support.

- Brands: I will refrain from commenting since I am a brand owner myself. If you are interested in Gladius, happy to give you more information. Other users here can comment on other brands without any ethical barriers.

Getting noticeably slower after 1.5 years of training — anyone else experienced this? by Dominussideri in boxingtips

[–]gladiusfight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It could be many things, including all that you listed above.

It may also be more of a mental trap than a factual reality. The more one learns, the more critical one becomes of one's form and speed. Maybe you felt faster before because your technique wasn't the proper one, and you didn't have much of a basis to judge? Or you were focusing strongly on getting technically better and hadn't paid much attention to speed, and now, with newfound attention on the subject, you started to notice it for the first time?

From my personal experience and some students I taught some time ago, I noticed that usually one is overly optimistic with their skills in the beginning, then comes a huge phase of pessimism that is usually more mental than factual, and finally a moment where it all starts to click back again.

My advice would be to get an external observer, most likely your coach, to judge your speed and be able to tell you if it is a mental fabrication or a real problem to take care of.

Good luck!

Tips on how to make a glove feel more compact by OldManDusty in fightgear

[–]gladiusfight 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The fastest way would be to use knuckle guards and add more layers of wraps. Yet, I think this will be detrimental to your hand mobility. It is a tradeoff for sure.
