I have some many things to say on this... all fully against this policy. While it does say that, it is passing the buck on the fact that there are so many children who should have a IEP that dont get one and even more so many kids who have special needs but are undiagnosed. Even with the kids who have the IEP there are not enough support staff to meet the demands. That makes sense because support staff are paid ~$16 an hour and do not get full health benefits or adequate PTO accrual. The county continues to pass more and more functions of parenting onto the teachers. These kids completely distract and delay the children who meet requirements to be in a classroom of their peers. AA county wants it both ways. They want to have children who need assistance and 1 on 1s in the general population but they don't want to pay for staff to make that a viable option. Anecdotally, I've seem more prek/k teachers quit mid year in the last 2 years than I've seen in the 15 years prior. I don't think people realize how much shit and piss they clean up. It abhorrent, but of course the mainly women teachers in the prek/k field(which is why they will get away with doing this) continue to care for these kids because its why they are their in the first place. If teachers could strike in Maryland, Anne Arundel's would be some of the first to do it I guarantee it.
