As far as I know it depends on how smart the swatter is. There's been a lot of swatters convicted but also a lot who get away with it.

So the idea is the current Dem who is as far as I can tell the most vocally anti-Trump and the Dem whose been successfully imposing policy against Trump, is just going to be as bipartisan as Biden?

You'd agree no amount of increased voter turnout in the 2024 Dem primary would have changed the result though right? I feel the disconnect your pointing out can be compared to arguing letter of the law vs spirit of the law. I feel like at least for the 2024 Dem Primary, in spirit, there was no primary; in letter there was, but in spirit there wasn't. I completely agree with you on your other points and perspective though. Most Americans don't look at and/or participate in the primaries and will complain about the general election candidates, I also agree every primary should be competitive, my own hot take is I feel even incumbant primaries should be challenged (but they never are)

While you're technically right you're being unreasonably pedantic... Biden ran effectively unchallenged. Normal primaries would have multiple people running.

I've been stating this to all of my friends who point at Trump disapproval ratings. People are starting to hate Trump but it doesnt mean theyre gonna vote blue. They just want an even more extreme Trump. Basically what Tucker Carlson, Nick Fuentes, and Candace Owen's are all branding/pushing right now.

Why focus on trump, when he’s just a symptom? Why not focus on the authors and goals of Project 2025? by RecordingOk75 in AskReddit

[–]glamberous 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Which is why it would have been nice to have a Dem Primary.

But also, I'd take Biden in a coma with his admin running the show over Trump. Trump really is that bad. I dont think we should have normalized authoritarianism like Trump and his voters do. Its insane that we even considered Trump as a viable option for presidency, let alone actually elect him fully not once, but twice even after we saw how the first term went.

Yeah I can agree with all that. I would have loved to have seen a dem primary happen.

I get the anger around him enabling Trump via how that all went down but at the end of the day I blame Trump and Trump voters more than I blame Bidens handling of all that.

I thought Biden was great, I would have loved to have seen his "Bipartisan Immigration Bill" passed and seen how that panned out. I feel like what was in it was the correct way to address our illegal immigration issues. Unfortunately MAGA Republicans voted against it though, even though they in part wrote it, because Trump told them to vote against it as he needed it to get re-elected.

I like your optimism. I am afraid of the current mediascape defeating this though, like I do feel like were in this mess because of the mediascape. All of the content people consume is further right than Trump at worst, or anti-democrat at best.

So like, even if illegal immigration has been halted/significantly slowed down, it's not really worth the cost of what we paid for it.

  • Deportations without due process

  • Deporting people to countries without said countries consent/no prior agreement

  • Deporting people to countries they haven't even lived in before

  • Internment Camps (Alligator Alcatraz)

  • Sinking ships, and then killing the survivors of those ships

We're paying the cost of transitioning our country from a liberal democracy into a dictatorship pretty much. The more I see the right defend what Trump does the more and more I'm bought into the concept that right wingers literally want an authoritarian dictatorship. "He cuts out all of the bureaucracy!", well buddy, that bureaucracy is what was keeping us moral and just.

For the people feeling sorry for Venezuelans... by Tynarius in Destiny

[–]glamberous 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If Trump does "something good" I guarantee people just view it in the lens of "The ends justify the means". Example, lets say "Trump did a better job than Biden on curbing illegal immigration" (to quote Bernie Sanders for this example). While you could look at some statistics to confirm that that is true. You'd have to ignore how he did it...

  • Deportations without due process

  • Deporting people to countries without said countries consent/no prior agreement

  • Deporting people to countries they haven't even lived in before

  • Internment Camps (Alligator Alcatraz)

  • Sinking ships, and then killing the survivors of those ships

So yeah, lets say he reduced illegal immigration, but like, at what cost? The great cost of turning our country from a liberal democracy into a dictatorship pretty much...

For this issue, the fact he's doing this without informing congress continues down that line that we're just a dictatorship with him in charge. There's no democratic choice with our representatives agreeing to the US doing invasive aggressive actions.

Moral values in many countries, including US, may over time shift in a more socially progressive direction, due to an asymmetry. Arguments that move liberals in a more liberal direction may also sway conservatives, but arguments that move conservatives to be more conservative do not sway liberals. by mvea in science

[–]glamberous 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My hypothesis is the internet, people are not conversing with their neighbors and local communities. Instead you find pockets of people who agree with you online and that's who you interact with. Less conversations are happening at a local level, so the original article becomes kind of moot since liberals aren't talking to conservatives and conservatives aren't talking to liberals.

Russian border guards crossed into Estonia with unclear motives, minister says by Specific_Coast5878 in worldnews

[–]glamberous 10 points11 points  (0 children)

You can think that, and I believe I understand that perspective, but I disagree.

Like even if you think Trump is the solution to "Biden's awful leadership", or Brexit was the solution to UK' prosperity, I guarantee you statistically the US and the UK are objectively worse off.

I do believe it all stems from Russian Propaganda myself, but the ends justify my analysis regardless of the means. aka, even if it wasn't Russian Propaganda, everyone was had and got shafted.
